Have you ever asked God for signs? He may have given me some (or so I thought)

FIRST SIGN. I have a dream which, due to circumstances beyond my control, I still haven’t reached. I actually lost hope I would ever achieve it. A month ago, I suddenly began to desire it again. I asked God one night: "will I actually attain this dream? Please give me a sign. " The next day, as I was scanning a book, something caught my eye:
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE:
"Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart. " (Psalm 37:4)
“Are you believing God for something that seems to be taking a long time? In the natural, you may have every reason to give up on what God has placed in your heart. Maybe you thought they would never work out, or you’ve buried them because they did not happen on your timetable. But God still has a way to bring them to pass.”

Be encouraged because God is working behind the scenes on your behalf. Delight yourself in Him—find joy in serving Him and make your heart pliable in His hands. Don’t settle for mediocrity because God knows what’s in you, and His plan is to finish the work He began in you when you delight yourself in Him. "

I told myself: “this is the sign I prayed for!” I was teary-eyed. Indeed, without bragging, I can say that “I delight myself in the Lord.” I’ve been distributing copies of the Divine Mercy chaplet to my entire neighborhood (with mom’s help), to friends, and even to strangers. I encoded these copies myself, encouraging people to trust in Christ’s mercy and even stating the Works of Mercy in them. I do this with joy.
SECOND SIGN. I was vexed by someone. I prayed to God: “Lord, what is your plan on this? Please give me your message via the Bible.” Behold, I opened the Bible on the pages which contain Matthew chapters 5 and 6. They preach on “teaching about anger, love for enemies, revenge, forgiveness,” etc. I cried, for God heard my humble prayer.
THIRD SIGN. Years ago, I kept on giving advice to someone who was a slave of sin. I said that if she won’t stop, she would eventually harm herself. One day, I was out, and saw something that sent chills over my spine. In front of me was a man with a quotation at the back of his shirt saying: “Happy is the man whom other men’s harm make beware.” It was the very first time that I saw a quotation like that. After seeing the quotation I felt a strong urge to go to the church, and I did.
ST. THERESE FLOWERS. I prayed a novena to St. Therese. Before the answer came, she gave me the famous “shower of roses” in my dream. I was in an open field alone. In a magical, slow motion, I saw millions of red roses raining down on me.
GUARDIAN ANGEL. One night, I lost my rosary. I spent more than a half hour looking for it. There was no way I could have missed looking for it on my bed, because I repetitively searched every part of my room. To my amazement, I saw the rosary, in plain view, on the very bed I already searched many times! “Whoever” placed it there knew exactly what I was looking for.Do you think it was my guardian angel?

Do you think that God graciously heard my prayers, or are they mere coincidences? Do you have similar experiences? Please share them so together we can praise the Lord.

I won’t get into details … but I once asked Jesus to let me know that He hears me when I pray to Him … the sign I asked for was granted to me … since then sometimes I feel good about it, but sometimes I feel a great weight from actually knowing He is there. Blessed are those that believe without seeing.

katherine438, thanks a lot for replying to my post. I know it’s a struggle to read because it’s too long, but I felt the need to present the details of my experiences. I learned there’s a CAF member who’s a priest. Maybe I could get him to comment. I am curious to know his perspective on this matter. Thanks again, katherine438.

I can’t think of any time I’ve directly demanded a sign from God, but He has given me signs and more in the past. If you think He gave you a sign, ask Him. If He did, then I’m sure He’ll let you know.

MercyWarrior, yes, many times I have asked for signs and don’t have any worry over asking God for them as it always brings me closer to Him. Gideon asked God for a sign twice and was very specific about it (Judges 6:32-40). So, I personally see no harm in asking for signs.

For me, one of the greatest signs that God gives me in moments of doubt are recalling His prior answers to prayer often amid what seems unresolvable circumstances. So, I encourage you to continue praying and if that involves your asking for signs, feel free to do so. Remember. Our whole goal in this life is to draw closer to Jesus and that is through prayer which leads us to know and do His will. If your “signs” help you with this, then know that God is their source.

Well, I believe in signs…and miracles, too, but best discussed with your priest or confessor. As far as dreams are concerned I find that some of my own dreams are related to my thoughts, conversations, and even deeds, to what I have ingested during the day or before going to bed, and my ID or inner self is still munching away, trying to digest via dreaming.
It is well accepted that dreams are a sub-conscience way to help solve problems, inner conflicts or even give some answers to the directions we should follow. Remember the old adage, "Follow your dreams?’ Keep dreaming good dreams. Signs are everywhere. Just don’t get lost and speak to your confessor. Peace.

I asked Him that too. And I was in Church in front of His icon it suddenly looked to me like moving and so were.the rest of the icons I prayed in front after His -the Archangels, Jesus in the icon with Theotokos. The Saints - in that Church were Nicholas and John the Baptized - were still though just looking at me. I felt relieved even if stared at. These images never stopped since. No pressure for me, I have nothing to hide from them. I sometimes talk with them in my head. Usually when I.see an icon. Replies come in my head, in form of sudden thoughts that I don’t expect. Jesus is also accompanied more like warmth I feel physically around my body. I feel hugged.
I know Holy Fathers told us to be careful.with sensations and thoughts but this is it me. I am.too mystical to just live a normal.life. God knows because I told Him - if I wouldn’t be Christian I’d be a witch. He said He doubts that very much. It still feels like a compliment I don’t deserve.

Please don’t be too hard on yourself. For some reason I do believe in psychics and persons with third eye or “special gift.” There have been numerous accounts from police officers attesting that indeed, psychics had helped them in solving what they initially believed were “cold cases.” I also have a friend who has a “third eye” and there’s nothing wrong with her. She’s as normal as you and me. If you have “unique abilities” then thank God for them.

Brittany, thanks for your sharing that. I’d like to have that dream! That was marvelous… you prayed and there was a manifestation that your prayer was heard, and in such a wondrous way. I also dreamed once of Mama Mary and baby Jesus. I was walking on a road, and at the end of the road Mama Mary and little baby Jesus (who was carried by Mary) were waiting for me. When I finally came close, Mama Mary gave Baby Jesus to me. I woke up without touching Jesus.

I haven’t asked for signs but have been very blessed unexpectedly. Once at a prayer group something happened that made me feel very sad. It was just a joke that hit a raw nerve but it just kept going on. I went outside at break time to pray. I turned around while praying, looked at the moving clouds and saw a big heart shaped break in the clouds. As the clouds moved the heart shape stayed but very slowly grew smaller. As I looked at the blue heart I could have cried but with humble joy and returned to the group happier and at peace.

I will never want or need a valentine card (not that I get any) because nothing can compare to the blue heart in the sky from God.

I was meditating on the passion of Jesus and the denial of Peter when I heard a cock crow on a song nearby

For dreams, I wouldn’t put too much stock into them as they are so … varied. Some folks don’t even remember any dreams. I for one, only remember maybe 3 or 4 in my entire life. Though, as with anything, if it brings you closer to Christ, then it’s good for that. I’m just cautious that if people have dreams that bring them closer to Christ, maybe they’ll have dreams that take them away from Christ. If a dream, unsubstantiated, can bring someone closer to Christ, good. The danger is, the very same unsubstantiated dream may very well lead someone away from Christ, that can’t be a good thing. Thus, my position would be not to put too much validity in dreams.

God’s providence is a mysterious thing, wondrous, and keeps us guessing every time!

This is my humble opinion, as we are made in the image and likeness of God, that image is our Spiritual Senses of Intellect, Will, Imagination, and Memory. Within those senses the Intellect is still pretty strong, even after the fall, and within that intellect is our consciousness. If God is the creator and source of our Spiritual Senses and we use our senses for thoughts, it is very easy, for me to see at least, that a shadow of our own consciousness, has a seat and a source in the infinite.

Okay, in simple words, sometimes when we are praying and we get a great idea, is that our own idea or is that God’s providence nudging our own consciousness to His answer?

Simple examples in my own life: As I continue to learn about Catholicism, a question popped into my mind, “Why did God chose the Jews?”. Days later, in personal prayer, the thought comes into my head, “If you want to learn about the Jews, read Hebrews”. And there, in Chapter 1, is the answer that I sought.

Another one, deep though, last year as I was watching Gibson’s Passion, very dramatic as you all may know, I wondered “How in the world could Jesus put up with the pain of the scourging”. Weeks went by, and one day, after receiving on a Friday Mass, I realized, “Jesus was able to put up with the pain because of MY love for him, today!” My love for Christ, today in 2018 was able to give Christ strength to persevere through the pain.

Huh? This led me to CCC 473 where it says that Christ, while he was here on earth, knew every single human being that ever lived, was living, and that would ever live.

There’s lot more, but these are good to share for now 😀

Oh! But for the thread, no, I’ve never been given a sign to my knowing knowledge.

There is the possibility that I was given a sign, but too blind to see it.

EDIT/ADD: However, how many times has divine providence or guardian angels been the only explanation for the mysterious good things in my life? Too numerous to count!

Im still unsure if this is a sign or not, but i prayed a lot to padre pio for something, a month later I was at a healing service and this man came up to me and handed me padre pios actual mitten ( not to keep, just to pray with), he didn’t go up to anyone else.

Then two weeks later, my non catholic mother in law, ended up at a padre pio shrine in wales by mistake, she was sent there to find someone (who wasn’t there, it was a mistake) and she sent me a padre pio card through the post.

Not sure, might be just reading into things tbh

Thanks so much for this information, Monicad. It opened my eyes. Yes, it’s possible that I have this charism, and I will explore more on this before going to a spiritual director. I remember having a dream in which a stranger told me a certain neighbor of mine in my home city died (I was living in another city that time). When I returned to my home city I learned that my neighbor really died. I also dreamed of an already deceased person (of course he was alive in my dream) who talked to me about Virgin Mary. I actually have more strange experiences which I have not presented here. Through the years they are piling up, and I can’t ignore the possibility that I have this “charism” which I should use for the benefit of the church.

KatyCatholic, thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts. Daily, I pray the Stations of the Cross at around 3 o’clock. Jesus actually said to St. Faustina that He wants people to say this prayer at 3 pm, if they have time. He wants us to always remember what He endured to give us redemption. You know, everytime I watch the YouTube video of the song “We Are The Reason,” I can’t help but cry, seeing Jesus suffer. It has never failed to touch my heart. God indeed LOVES the world so much that He allowed His only beloved Son to suffer like that.
