Hi All:

Have you ever been a victim of a demonic attack? If so, please describe what happened. Also, what do you use to protect yourself against demonic attack? Some folk wear a St. Benedict medal and pray to him for protection. How about you?

Yes, I have. I was part of an exorcism for 5 years. I had the protection of the Church behind me as this was Bishop blessed and priest-led.

Christ is risen…truly he is risen!

I sympathize with you Shoshana.People do not realize the reality of demonic possesion, infestation, obsession.😦

Not any more 🙂 God closed some doors I that I was never aware were even opened after I began this conversion to the RCC. I think it’s important for people to never believe that they are for some reason open to attack. If it happens often and is accepted it should not be. God can end it totaly and will.

Yes, now I do where they would accuse me of past sins that I went to confession for. Also, being that in my past I lead a very sinful life, they don’t like to loose souls, so I can feel them OPPRESSING me with negativity on some days, or unexplained sadness at times, etc. One example is that today during the whole day, I was feeling down and out, all a weird day, and tonight when I knelt and prayed the Rosary, while meditating on the mysteries, I LITERALLY FELT A WEIGHT LIFTED OFF MY SHOULDERS, I FELT SO LIGHT. AS IF THE WHOLE DAY THIS WEIGHT WAS ON ME, AND SUDDENDLY LET GO. DEAR GOD, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT WAS THIS??? IF SO, PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YOU HONESTLY THINK?

Yes, please pray for me, in the past i seemed to open my soul up to sins, and these evils try to bring me down.

I can relate to this and have areas of weakness in my life where I do not feel “possessed” but sure feel “opressed”. It’s like I have the “angel” on one shoulder and the “devil” on the other like they do in some cartoons. It seems if I listen to the “devil” in some matters, my life goes to the pit in a handbasket.

Some of you may laugh, though it’s serious. My latest losing battle seems to be with a gameboy. I am absolutely addicted to it and spend literally hours on end playing it. Knowing this from the last time I had one, I still bought another one. It’s like an alcoholic and having one drink, it leads to disaster. No, I can not be “pulled over” for driving under the influence of gameboy, but time I could be spending doing something productive (including Mass and prayer) goes to being in a stupor staring at a game screen.

Other issues also come up, but this one seems to get out of hand fast when I just “open the door” a little bit by getting the game system at all. When I get my own computer going, I am plan to leave games off it and not use it for a toy. Please pray that I have the strength to get rid of the gameboy and use the computer for good. Thanks 👍

Dear Misericordie:

This sounds real enough to me. Have you tried cultivating The Jesus Prayer? That ought to keep them at bay.

That may not be so easy since the computer is the greatest toy ever invented. Next to TV, it’s probably the most Satanic instrument of all. Both have a compelling, hypnotic power that’s very difficult to resist and that pull us away from what we really ought to be doing with our time. The Lord Jesus tells us that “if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out,” and I stopped watching TV altogether some time ago to cut myself off from (among other things) the sewer of filth and idiocy that flows out of Hollywood. But my computer is another of those “eyes” that I need to do something about. Some folks ‘fast’ from their computer on certain days of the week, and in that way ration their time with it. It’s worth thinking about.

No, but what is the prayer?
Hi Misericordie:

It’s very simple and can take various forms but I think the most usual is:

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me, a sinner.

The idea is that you repeat this as often as possible during the day, either aloud or mentally, until eventually it becomes more or less automatic and is present all the time. If you run a Google search you’ll find lots of information about it. There are also many books on The Jesus Prayer. You’ll find some of them listed at Amazon page:

amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/103-7263732-1539835

There’s also a CAF thread I started, ‘Do you pray the Jesus Prayer,’ at:

forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=44122

You’ll find some useful tips there. The prayer may seem simple but is in fact very effective and will do good things or you. Nothing is more holy or powerful than the name of Our Savior and devils don’t like it at all.

Why not give it a try? You’ve got half of it in your signature already.

Right now I don’t have a TV, but a co-worker repaired my computer though I do not have it set up yet. I am still using computers at my workplace and mainly the public library. Those places have a built in time limit since the library has a 30 minute limit if others wait to use the computer (and most of the time there is someone waiting, even if I walk the stacks and come back I am still using the computer at 30 min chunks instead of one big long session most of the time). The workplace, we are only allowed to surf the web on certain computers on our breaks and lunches.

I bought the gameboy (against my own better judgement) before my computer was repaired. A co worker mentioned how he builds and fixes computer, I happened to have my computer in my car and brought it in. The next day, he returned it fixed for under $40!! Not sure if that was a blessing or curse. The gameboy was a big mistake, I may sell it or break it to pieces with a hammer like I did to my last one.

Many, many years ago, I was at a prayer group meeting, a small group of just six folks, and before the meeting began, one friend turned to say something, and his face contorted and his voice changed to a hoarse growl…and the words that came out of his mouth were very mocking of our faith. We all whitnessed it, some friends were in tears…Thank God that we were able to really pray about it after.

That is why I am so hesitant to get involved in prayer and Bible study groups run by lay folk. I much rather be in a situation with a priest leading the group.

This happened 20 some odd years ago, and recalling it gives me chills.

Hi Misericordie:

If I’ve understood you correctly, it sounds to me as if praying the Rosary led to a wonderful influx of grace, and in what I posted earlier I didn’t intend to demean the Rosary in any way. It’s a wonderful devotion, and I pray it myself, but the great beauty of the Jesus Prayer is that it can be said almost anywhere, and at almost any time; you can say it, for example, while walking down the street, while waiting for a bus or train, while in the elevator, while cooking, washing up, taking a bath, etc. In other words, it’s intensely practical, while the Rosary can at times be impractical.

I first learned about The Jesus Prayer in Peter Kreeft’s chapter "“Jesus”: The Shortest, Simplest, and Most Powerful Prayer in the World," in his very useful Prayer for Beginners (San Francisco:Ignatius Press, 2000. pp.53-74). ISBN 0-89870-775-7

Since then I’ve read three very good books on it:

Irma Zaleski Living the Jesus Prayer(Novalis, 2003). ISBN 0-8264-1090-2.

Frederica Mathewes-Green, The Illumined Heart - The Ancient Christian Path of Transformation. (Brewster, Mass; Paraclete Press, 2001. ISBN 1-55725-286-6

and the wonderful The Way of a Pilgrim which exists in several editions.

There are many other good books on it but these are a good place to start finding out more about The Jesus Prayer.

Yup! That’s what you should do. Smash it to bits while chanting Get thee behind me Satan!

Thank you Lisa…but I was well protected, trust me. For those who misunderstood my post, I was part of a team and not being exorcized myself. But you are right, most people do not understand the reality…they believe evil is ‘out there somewhere’…

Yeah I thought that’s what you meant .
I was on a prayer team many years ago while in the CCR… two sisters had dabbled w/ a "ouija board " in their past and as a result got into some real trouble with manifestations of evil …:yup:
We were praying intercessory prayer for them when the “evil” became manifest:eek: They were sent to the local bishop and were counseled by him…

Certainly not pretty…but we are victors in our Lord Jesus Christ! With the protection of Mary’s mantle…🙂

I think that if you were to say you have never been a victim of a demonic attack, you would be right where the devil wants you.

I think the most effective and dangerous demonic attacks are the ones that occur in our heads every day of our lives. The negatives we think about ourselves and others. I personally feel like I’ve fought a battle with him everyday of my life. The reason this type of attack is so dangerous and effective is because… (I’ll use myself for an example) -up until just recently, I didn’t realize I was fighting a battle with anyone. I thought these negative thoughts going through my head all of the time were my own! The devil has the power to put thoughts into our heads. But if we realize this, we have a stronger power through our knowledge of what he is capable of and our knowledge of God’s love for us.

Please know: any time you have a negative thought you need to cast it aside and remember that’s not how God sees you. God is inside of each and everyone of us and that makes us all beautiful in the eyes of God, and makes us beautiful in each others eyes too. Negative, condemning thoughts, actions, or deeds come from the evil one, and if we’re all conscious of this than he can not and will not win.
