i have, many times… though sometimes i have to admit that, when i thought about it, it wasn’t really God i was angry with… although maybe i kinda was because, after all, He has the power to control things…

tha’ts not to say he is going to, though… 😃

I don’t usually stay angry with God (but maybe i shouldn’t say that because now the devil is going to say… “Hmmm… :hmmm: we’ll see about that!” :ouch: )…

So… have you ever been angry at God & not tried very hard to get over it??

I still struggle with this issue. I was raised in the Jehovah’s Witness cult and my entire family was destroyed and I lost every friend I ever knew up to age 34 when I left JWs. And all I did was leave, I did not make it a bitter battle–they did. I was a pioneer (local missionary) for 15 years and gave all my health and youth to that religion and I can’t figure out what God got out of me doing all that and wasting all that time and effort?

My father is the cruelest hypocrite still involved in the JWs and while I have been out and living my own life for years, he still gets himself involved in my life and does hurtful things that he justifies by his religion. I confess hatred every confession and I try to let it go.

I don’t see the point and I get angry at God for letting it go on and on.

I did not have to be this way. I could have learned the same lessons in other ways and been more productive and successful in my spiritual life. I am angry at God for my lost potential too. I have no children, cannot have because as a JW I was convinced by them to be sterilized. I have no family now. I am disabled and getting sicker. I will die alone in the street. And all those years I could have been a Catholic missionary or married to a Deacon raising a family or something that counted.

ok that was cathartic. sorry if I got bitter.

Why should I be? What has he done to me? As I see it, blaming God for one’s problems is just a way for someone to find someone to blame when no one else can be found.

I

i am not sure i understand this one sentence (the above).

that is horrible… I didn’t know the JWs did that kind of thing… I believe the procedure can be reversed… I dont know how old you are or whatever… but God can restore things… It may take time and lots of prayer… but He can do miracles…

i have often felt the kind of despair you seem to feel. i have been in hell… I used to tell myself that there was no hell in the after life worse than wht i was going through… (but then i read st. Faustina’s account [Diary 741] of Hell… Yikes… I took back my words)…

Anyway… i will pray for you… Have you made any effort to join the Cahtolic Church? How interested in doing that are you?

I know the Catholic Church did “miracles” for me…

I only put (") marks on that statement because some wouldn’t think what happened with me was a big miracle… But Jesus and i know better… :knight2: and God is no respecter of persons. What he does for one, he will do for anyone who desires it…

do you pray the rosary?

(you can Private Message me if you would prefer)

Also, i think maybe God has us go through these things not because he really wants to but because it will get our minds focused on the things of HIs world, not the things of this world that we will ALL leave behind some day. It is hard (“impossible”) to think about the next world when we have so much to do (or so we think) in this world… It is easy for humans to feel that this world is all there is… though they usually feel this in their hearts and not their heads, necessarily…

Anyway… that is what God seemed to be telling me…

God bless…

Yes, I have gotten angry with God on a number of occasions. I don’t know that I’ve ever been furiously angry with God though. But honestly, I had no right being angry with God because His will is better than my own and if He doesn’t answer a prayer the way I want Him to, then it is for my own good. Sometimes I don’t understand the reason God answers my prayers differently than I want Him to but I know that ultimately His will is the best for me. 👍

I will never forget Fr. Joe’s homily about faith, hope and trust in the Lord. On Friday, July 27, 2001, I miscarried our third child. On Sunday, July 29, during Fr. Joe’s homily, he spoke of a family who had lost a child, due just before Christmas. They waited 13 years before they were blessed with another baby. They then gave that child the Christmas gifts they had bought for their first child and had saved all that time. They had stayed away from church during that time, yet they still had enough faith and hope to keep the gifts for another baby. After 13 years God blessed their family with a healthy baby. His plan for them was to have a child, even though His timeframe was 13 years.

With our loss and our own heartache, with the hurt so fresh and new, I could only begin to imagine the fear, the questioning, the heartache, the longing they experienced over those years. Yet, they kept the gifts, hoping they would have another child to give them to. And their faith was rewarded, for God had a plan for them. After our miscarriage, my husband was ready to try again immediately. His faith was strong that God would bless us with another child. I was not so sure. I did not know what He was telling us with the miscarriage; was the answer “no” or “no, not now” or “no, not ever again.” We had gotten married a bit later in life and did not know how many children we could have. But, I tried to accept that whatever His answer was, it was all part of His plan for us and our family. After hearing that homily, I began to realize that we could deal with whatever happened and I tried to fully put my faith in Him and accept His will would be done, whatever that was. I did get pregnant again and with the exception of having gestational diabetes, I had a healthy pregnancy. Our second son, a healthy and strong little boy, was born in January, 2003.

I’ll never forget Fr. Joe’s homily that Sunday because I believe that was God’s providence at work. He spoke to us and comforted us and encouraged us to have faith, hope and trust through Fr. Joe and I am so grateful we heard. 🙂
Interesting question. No, I don’t think I’ve ever been furiously angry with God. My post above from another thread about our miscarriage reflects many emotions, but I don’t think I was furiously angry with God even then. I was hurt, sad, bewildered, scared, despairing, oh yes. I was also probably a bit angry too, (to be honest, I don’t remember that emotion) but not furiously so if I was. The loss of my child was the biggest loss in my life then and thus far, I think, so if I were to be really angry with God, I would think that would have been the time. Maybe it helped that He brought healing and comfort through Fr. Joe so quickly after our loss? I always hear that He will not burden us with anything that we can’t handle, so I guess He knew we needed healing to begin right away? I don’t know.

Very interesting question.

i tell myself that… but sometimes my head and my heart have big arguments… 😃

that sentence you didn’t understand shold have been “It” not “I”–I have learned lessons from the hard times in my life–but I do believe I could have learned the lessons in other ways without the pain and suffering that seems to be wasted.

JWs do not preach sterilization but they “encourage” you NOT to have children–and any JWs on these boards will invariably call me a liar–but I was in for 34 years and it is an “inside” thing. And this particular circumstance was that they were fixing me up with a single friend who did not want children—of course the day of the surgery was the last time I ever heard from him.

I came into the Church in 2002. I pray the rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet. But my health prevents me from making regular Mass and apparently this parish does not have enough volunteers to bring it to me as I have ask more than once and told that I live too far away. (6 miles from the Church).

I read St. Faustina’s Diary before I even came into the Church. I find her humanity encouraging. Thank you for encouraging me too.

No to the original q.

I liken it to a 15 year old being over the top angry at their parent (who btw is the greatest wisest most loving and generous parent ever).

I strive to trust and hope to understand.

I was unspeakably angry with God when I realized how much my children were suffering when I first fell ill…and I raged verbally too Him - often out loud! When some semblance of sanity returned a little, I reasoned that I was indeed furious and with God and that it was an understandable (if not justified) fury…reaching that stage, I then went on to reasoning that God is my Loving Father and that sometimes children of loving fathers do get furious with their Dad and that a loving Dad accepts this and can handle it…and so I asked God to accept my fury and anger as my Loving Father - with something I think of a measure of humility - since it was useless to hide my angry disposition from Him, since He could read my heart. I did move on to a more peaceful inner disposition - resigned and trustful…but I underwent quite a journey to that place, and one of not understanding and anger.

i totally understand this… could have written a lot of it myself… When you say “not justified…” well… it IS justified in the sense that we are (i feel) entitled to get angry at God since we dont’ understand what he is doing/not doing…

We are not on the same level as he is… It is difficult to impossible to have a relationship with someone who is so far above us… He has all the power, we have none… so why wouldn’t we get angry??

but i have notice the only time i get angry with God is when i am around people… even if it is just that i am indirectly around them… When i take a walk out in the country where no one is around (or very few ever come around), i find i am not angry… Anyway, the bible says to be angry but sin not… God knew we would get angry with him… It is staying angry iwth him, going away from his Church, etc… that is a problem… as i am sure you know…

Jesus was sent to us because, as someone once said… “People are not enough for us and God is too much for us… Jesus (being both) is just right.” 🙂

Yes, sadly. 😦 It began when my dad (to whom I was very close) died; and gradually, the rest of my family began to disintegrate. I’m certain that all of my anger at God… <or rather, the voice of the enemy telling me “It’s all GOD’S fault”> was the reason that I stopped practicing the faith for so long.

Well… my earthly family is still pretty much in tatters. Some are outside of the Church. And all of us are separated, by thousands of miles. But through the loving concern and gracious intercession, of Our Blessed Mother, Mary… my “anger” toward God has now been disintegrated! She has brought me closer to the Merciful Heart of her Son (our Precious Jesus), than I ever was before in my life.

I’ve been annoyed at God before, and felt I’ve been the “victim”. I apologised after I calmed down. I can’t remember ever being furiously angry at Him, though I have been furiously angry before.

Yes I have been very angry with God…believe it or not it was because my mom came back to the Church and I did not want to at all. I think I was mostly angry because I was forced to make a very important decision, made the wrong one and got mad at Him about that until I eventually came around. I am more ashamed of how I felt and acted at that time than anything else I’ve ever done.

By "not justified " I meant that God is always acting in our best interests which at one and the same time is in the best interests of every single person alive. This is our Faith. My illness which came right out the blue and caused so much suffering in my children triggered in me an overwhelming rage and fury that my innocent children were suffering so much…when I got it all out and to The Lord directly and started hence to cool down a bit, it sent me searching to understand why the innocent do suffer in the light of a Loving and Merciful God…this led me to understand the Mystery of God’s Will forever acting in the very best interests of all which can be a total mystery to us. Hence I don’t think being angry at The Lord is justified…though entirely understandable due to the fact that we just cannot understand and it is a tender human quality of compassion, and commendable, to not want to see or know that the truly innocents, especialy children, are suffering and terribly at times.
I told God in my anger way back when I first fell ill that this Heaven had better be a pretty great place indeed…or I would be furious again!😃

I am quite confident totally, that God looks with loving understanding and compassion at our human reaction of anger at mystery when circumstances arise to trigger such reaction. It is quite human and almost a drive in us to seek to understand and when confronted with painful mystery, the quite human reaction is frustration leading to anger. In Faith and what it tells us however, I dont think we are justified if…if…we insight that particular lesson of Faith.
but i have notice the only time i get angry with God is when i am around people… even if it is just that i am indirectly around them… When i take a walk out in the country where no one is around (or very few ever come around), i find i am not angry… Anyway, the bible says to be angry but sin not… God knew we would get angry with him… It is staying angry iwth him, going away from his Church, etc… that is a problem… as i am sure you know…
I read once “one cannot go insane without other people”…that did cause me to laugh because i think it is probably very true. God is our Loving and Gentle Father…of course if one is angry with Him, He understands and with great Love. He has made us and knows how we work inwardly…and often one can be blind furious without really knowing why - let alone those times when we can understand. And not much use hiding the fact from Him that we are angry, for He knows it anyway…and it can be a totally frustrating experience for us humans to be angry with and at God, but there is no actual person there we can look dead in the eye, ‘man to man’, and tell them…and this (for me anyway) doubles the frustration and anger.
Jesus was sent to us because, as someone once said… “People are not enough for us and God is too much for us… Jesus (being both) is just right.”
Excellent quote!👍

Yes, I did get very angry with God a couple of times. Once when I was lied to by my convent and another time…I was so mad that I turned the crucifix around as I did not want to see Him at all.

No sense in trying to hide my emotions when He sees all. The Lord knows me so I might as well let all of my anger out…and I’m sure He smiles!:o

When I entered monastic life and was dogged by more troubles than the proverbial cats have fleas and in about as much hot water with my novice mistress also, my cell had a picture of The Shroud of Turin whose eyes would continually follow me and this was at the time the Shroud was considered probably fake. Every time I entered my cell and usually upset about something gone wrong, I’d look at the picture looking at me and say "Fraud’! I’m sure He smiled at me too!

God has given me many opportunities to be angry with Him and I have took Him up on it almost every time. I will not go into the gory details, not that anyone cares anyway. God gave me my temper and I have showed my appreciation by directing it to Him.

Sometimes I hear about how wonderful God has been to some of you and I think what did I do to deserve the pain he has inflicted upon me.

Ruth 1:l9 So they went together, and came to Bethlehem. And when they were come into the city, the report was quickly spread among all: and the women said: This is that Noemi. 20 But she said to them: Call me not Noemi (that is, beautiful), but call me Mara (that is, bitter), for the Almighty hath quite filled me with bitterness. 21 I went out full and the Lord hath brought me back empty. Why then do you call me Noemi, whom the Lord hath humbled, and the Almighty hath afflicted?

not that anyone cares anyway.
I think many people do care and especially, I have noted, here on CAF when others do relate their unhappy predicament. But I think it can be a part of the anger inside of me to state “nobody really cares” which is a way I can feel sorry for myself and feel even more angry and justified to be so. When I am angry, I tell myself all the reasons I am justifiably angry, and also often add in anger considerable imaginative inventions!😃 Sometimes I can be angry and then drive myself into a state of fury and purely my own creation.

Excellent quote from Book of Ruth! Seems ‘angry with God’ is not exactly a 20/21st century invention, huh?👍 The Old Testament is full of people confused at God’s actions in their lives and especially The Prophets, most of whom were very reluctant prophets…and perhaps quite understandable since Israel had a history of persecuting the prophets who were only on an assignment from God to them.

God bless!..Barb:)
