Have you ever had a profound mystical experience?

I agree with Michael Mayo, who is so very wise and pure hearted in spirit. One is best to be silent about spiritual graces received from God or mystical experiences, so as to avoid the temptation of spiritual pride, which is the greatest enemy of the holy life. As Meister Eckhart once said: “The finest thing that we can say of God is to be silent concerning him from the wisdom of inner riches”.That is, unless one, with the approval of the Church or out of a desire to aid another person who needs guidance or requests it, decides to relate their experiences for the common good.

It is not wrong, however, to seek guidance on spiritual experiences one has had or to share them for the benefit of others.
Excellent post!

I think to have a profound mystical experience, one has to be a mystic. Tough going that. I am glad to see so many on this forum are so holy.
Not always do I think and then maybe it depends on what is meant by “profound”, “mystical” and “experience”. I think if one devoutly prayed to the Heavens for an answer about something and received an answer, say you sensed the answer or actually received the answer, you would not necessarily have to be a mystic.

Suffice to say such an experience is very physical, almost like getting a strong push. Such an experience is unmistakable. That’s enough for this forum.

Locutions do happen to a chosen few although one must be careful with them since they can come from a most excellent source or a source of pride or imagination. The best thing to do with it is determine the message whether good or of bad and pray in thanksgiving and in humility. God loves you and wants to bring you to HIM. Pax
I have never understood what a locution is. Can you briefly explain it to me if I am not disrupting the thread? I read older threads, but still I don’t get it.Thks!

Answer

A locution is a form of private revelation, similar to an apparition, but rather than being seen a locution is heard or received internally. As with all claims of private revelation it is important to be certain that a locution is authentic before any recognition or significance is determined

The Catechism of the CC has a defin. as well

Contradictory…don’t you think?

I see no sense in boasting about such things but searching for their meaning requires help.
I do believe they are more common than we think and many just disregard them. If they are from God, it is an awesome gift and should be watered so it can blossom according to His will.

Fr. William Most once explained to us that if we receive such an experience and only good comes of it, then we are to thank God and go on. Not make a big deal of it. Certainly not to brag about it like we’re someone special. God Bless. Memaw

I may have had one of those, but I’m not sure if it was from an external source or just me. It felt like it wasn’t me though.

No 😦

but as I get older and see my retirement account balance, I sometimes hope the Protestant belief in a Rapture is true and I get swept up to Heaven. I can’t afford to get too old.

Don’t count on it!! Start saving. God Bless, Memaw
