Have you ever had a teaching on how to have a Christian marriage relationship.“vs” a worldly marriage?

I am not married, but I know the vast majority of Catholic marriages go through pre cana classes before marriage.

Learning about all of the Sacraments, including marriage, is part of Faith Formation. We learn from our parents, from our priests and catechists.

When we are ready to marry, the Church requires marriage preparation study for on average 6 months.

Marriage between two married people is a Sacrament. Sacramental study is more than secular study and is different than the Protestant view of marriage.

If you would like to know more about the Church teachings on marriage, I suggest Fulton Sheen’s classic work “Three To Get Married” It is available at no cost here https://www.ewtn.com/library/MARRIAGE/3GETMARR.TXT

Like others I have had pre cana but nothing before. This isn’t typically included in confirmation prep.

The Pre-Cana training is required for all Catholic marriages, and our particular training which lasted 3 days included a great deal of discussion of Christian values in marriage, such as respect for each other, solving conflicts, and communication.

My husband and I also had the advantage of both coming from homes where Christian parents (mine Catholic, his Protestant) had been happily married for a very long time, so the training didn’t really add much to what we had already learned watching our folks, especially since we were in our 30s, not starry eyed teenagers.

And yes, my mom swore by that Fulton Sheen book. I’ll admit, I never read it myself, but she thought it was the best.

Having said all that, I don’t know what you mean by “a worldly marriage” or why you would think Catholics would have such a thing. Marriage is a sacrament, not some worldly thing for us, especially since one doesn’t just run out and get a divorce if it doesn’t work out.

There are tons of teaching documents of the Church on marriage and family. Castii Connubii, Gaudium et Spes, Familiaris Consortio, and Mulieris Dignitatem come to mind off the top of my head.

There are hundreds of church documents, books, speeches, homilies, and programs, etc., on the sacrament of marriage, on family, and on Christians in the modern world from both clergy and lay people.

We do conduct Christian marriage program for our archdiocese married couples as part of our Renewal activity. I have seen many marriages being saved due to this program. To me it was the best thing that could happen to my own marraige, where the teaching in every aspect of marriage is so clear. When we first married, we were more or less groping in the dark. We saw what our parents did, and we just followed them. Sacramental marriage, Christian husband/wife, their roles, parenting, finance, communication and sexuality were all in the mess until we attended Marriage Renewal Seminar, then our eyes were open to what Christian marriage entailed.
