I read it was William Tyndale who exchanged “priest” for “elders” but I noticed in the Old Testament in the King James Version “priest” is still used, it’s just not in the New Testament?! But in the Douay-Rheims “priest” is still used in both Old and New Testament. And that the word “church” was taken out and “congregation” put in its place?( I won’t mention the 7 books that were removed.)
But I read that it has over 2000 errors? And that it was used to translate the King James Version? Does anyone know where the errors are? Wow what people did just to Un-Catholic themselves! And I thought making Christmass against the law was bad.

Leviticus 4:34 (King James Version)
34And the priest shall take of the blood of the sin offering with his finger, and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and shall pour out all the blood thereof at the bottom of the altar:

Leviticus 4:34 (Douay-Rheims)
34And the priest shall take of the blood thereof with his finger, and shall touch the horns of the altar of holocaust, and the rest he shall pour out at the foot thereof.

1 Timothy 5:17 (King James Version)
17Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

1 Timothy 5:17(Douay-Rheims)
17Let the priests that rule well, be esteemed worthy of double honour: especially they who labour in the word and doctrine:

I never noticed. Is the same word used in the original language for each verse? I noticed too that the word for “from above” in Greek is translated “again” in only a couple of places where Jesus says you must be born “again” or “from above”. Fundamentalist theology revolves around that one word almost as much as the sola scriptura argument.

Perhaps the difference is that Tyndale translated from the Greek New Testament and the Douhay-Rheims from the Latin Vulgate? I notice that the Douhay Rheims translates presbytyr some times as ancients and sometimes as priest. I do note in the New Testament the Greek hiereus, rather than presbytyr, is priest and archiereus is high priest. The difference in the translations in Bibles based on the Latin may be Jerome’s translation/interpretation when he translated from the Greek. It is difficult to maintain precision making a translation from the original language, nevermind a translation of translation.

Hi
Every word has several meanings and choice of words, some would prefer this one and other that one, that makes translations difficult and at times faulty. The solution is to provide the original text in the original language on a page and in the opposite the translation is given, so that the searching soul could make a deep study.
Thanks

Please don’t mind, it is just a discussion to reach the truth.
