Sometimes I am in the mood of praying constantly through the night, but I can’t think of what to pray or say to God. How can I pray? Thank you very much.

No but I read that it is well received by God because it is a sacrifice to pray instead of resting. You can read prayers.from a prayer book or you can read the Psalms. The Psalms are prayers too you know.

Thank you. Can I do it as a sacrifice for souls in the purgatory?

Also, don’t forget that meditation and contemplation are also a part of prayer. You don’t have to be sending up prayers for hours on in. Sometimes you’ll need to stop and listen.

To answer the OP, yes I have prayed through the night, but it wasn’t because I was specifically trying for that. I was in crisis. I couldn’t sleep, so I spent time with God instead. It was very edifying.

I often wake during the night, and I simply use ejaculations (aspersions) as a mantra to get back to sleep. It can last nearly a half hour sometimes. I offer them for the poor souls in purgatory since I have already obtained several plenary indulgences that were available for this holy season. Since I pray the rosary in church, I can also gain one every time I go to mass, but these poor souls are in very great need of our assistance. .

My fav is “Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.”

Perhaps, but to be honest I’m not sure! I might have, because on several occasions I know I feel asleep with a prayer on my lips, and woke up with that same prayer!

The gradual psalms are the night prayer of the Church. In other words, that part of the Church which accepts the obligation to rise and pray in the middle of the night. Psalms 125-130 or something like that.

Others would have more specific knowledge of this.

I’ve done it before. But only when burdened enormously for the welfare of someone I loved. Couldn’t have done it otherwise I believe. And I was extremely tired beforehand and yet wouldn’t sleep-only wanted to pray, to plead for their physical and spiritual well-being. The sense that I was being led and helped to do it was also overwhelming.
