Wait a minute…there’s a mall chapel? Like an actual priest hearing confessions AT THE MALL? That is awesome! I could shop AND go to confession, all in one trip. 😃

Yep!👍 Colorado Springs and Albany New York each have one. You should talk to your bishop about it. We’ve had one here staffed by Capuchin Franciscans as a Diocesan outreach for several years. It started as an experimental project originally financed by the Knights of Columbus and the diocese jointly. It’s been a wonderful sucess here. It also frees diocesan priests from “father can you bless my rosary” or hear my confession when he has wall to wall meetings. They also distrubuted ashes once an hour on ash wednesday and blessed throats on St Blaise.

This is a great thread!

I went to Confession on my wedding day before the Mass that evening, and the priest gave me the penance of meditating on the Blessed Mother standing at the foot of the cross and thinking about what I would do or say to console her. That made me cry. What could you say?! I still remember that sometimes and it REALLY makes me think. I was also able to share the idea with my jr. high youth group and it had a similar effect on them. They were pretty floored.

*Oh wow, that is an especially beautiful and moving penance. I don’t know what I might say…maybe nothing, maybe I would wrap my arms around her, and weep with her, at the foot of the cross. I don’t know, that really makes me think! *
