Yeah…Share, please!!

What was the fight about? Who started it? Was it worth it?

Also, How did you make up (if you did) and how did it change how you related afterwards?

Boy, I cannot say.
We did it millions of times.
Finally, now, we learnt to be in peace.

👍 I feel the same sentiments.

Some memories and hurts are best forgotten and more importantly forgiven.

Sadly though its true we often hurt the ones we love most mostly out of personal pride.

In my many years on this planet there have been many things I’ve said and/or done that I have regretted. But nothing that can be easily expressed or shared because, in truth, it is less about a specific thing said and more about a whole attitude and lifestyle that resulted in grave hurt to another. Hurt that cannot be easily repaired - if repaired at all.

All we can do is to pray God forgive us. Pray that those we have hurt so terribly will be healed and that they too will (someday) forgive us.

May God have mercy on us

Peace
James

Why? Seems like too private conversations to share on the internet. The idea of having people confess something so private to a bunch of strangers makes me uncomfortable. It seems very wrong to me and not at all fruitful in any way. I guess I don’t understand. Again, why?

I would rather try to forgive than keep going back to the hurtful words. I have a memory like the proverbial elephant when it comes to insults, and it’s very easy for me to recall every detail of what was said, as well as my own shock/pain/betrayal. It does me absolutely NO GOOD to keep going over these things.

“Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.”

Exactly. 👍

Me too. Big ole elephant brain. :(:o

I wonder if some of it has to do with just being female - we are so tuned in to language in general. Then also, my primary love language is words of affirmation, so it would stand to reason that the best way to hurt me is through words that are not affirming or that insult. All I know is, if I want to get angry at my husband, I can just open that file folder in my brain and it all comes back in living color, as though I were experiencing it in real time. I am trying to avoid doing that. I don’t think I can ever just get rid of the folder, but I can hopefully avoid clicking on it. 🙂

I agree. In addition, I wouldn’t want to break down my husband’s character in such a way as to share the thing he did that hurt me the most. It’s between the two of us and that is where it should stay.

If we continue to dwell on the fights and the regrettable things we’ve said to each other, neither one of us gets a chance to move forward.

Sometimes just knowing you’re not alone in your foolishness and/or pain helps- That’s it really 🤷 No science behind it.

But of course, only those who feel comfortable doing so would share, those who don’t won’t. So I don’t get the problem. Just a discussion about some of the hurt that goes on within families and how it changes relationships, for better or worse. I’ve seen such (lets just say “detailed”) stuff discussed about pretty intimate stuff right here on this Forum- Why should this be so bad?

If you’re curious, go back through some of my old messages.

😊

Many people come here to share specific situations and ask for support and advice on how to deal with or change the situation. They need help, and this is often where they come as a first step. There is a difference between sharing stories in this way and sharing them just for the sake of someone else’s curiosity. Once things are dealt with and are in the past, it’s best not to dredge up the bad memories because it doesn’t help us move forward.

Everything about that show is wrong and trashy. I was shocked to recently learn that it is still on television, that new episodes are being taped. I was looking for something to watch while I rode the exercise bike one day and saw that an episode was on dated 2012. For some reason, I believed that that show went to the television trash heap (where it belongs) some years ago. Unfortunately, I was wrong.

I don’t know that it is so bad. But, the purpose behind revisiting past drama and revisting it publicly eludes me. Sure, if someone needs help with a current problem and is willing to discuss it, I get that. But, going back and also sharing it? Not so much. Also, I don’t get the need to revisit “the worst, most regretful thing.” I guess the sensational wording struck me as too much. I didn’t mean to offend.

I’ve seen people ask if others are going/have gone through stuff that’s embarrassing too-not just asking advice about something that has happened to them. And sometimes “sharing” also helps rid of baggage. I’ve recently gone through a nasty period where such things have happened and I don’t know if that relationship will ever go back to the way it was, so I thought about asking the same here.

It certainly isn’t just “curiosity” but humans often want to know if others have done similar things and how they sorted it/changed themselves through it in the end.

Considering what you say here about this show that is being compared to what I’m doing here, I have to say that I find the insinuation insulting, unfair and presumptuous. There’s no rule here requiring anyone to participate in threads they consider pointless. The insult was very unnecessary.

I apologize. I did respond to that post and did comment about the Jerry Springer show, though it wasn’t a comparison to this thread and wasn’t meant to insult you. That show puts things out in public that should be kept private. The mere mention of that show just prompted brutal honesty about how awful it is. Sorry.

The title of the thread “What’s the worst, most regretful thing you ever said to family or Romantic Partner in an argument? What’s the worst they ever said to you?” is sensational, but not equal to that show, not even close.

Again, I apologize for my negative reaction in your thread to the mention of that show.

I still didn’t say that very well. I do apologize. The mere mention of that show just prompted a negative reaction. Your thread is not comparable to that show, not even close, and I didn’t mean to give that impression. Again, I am sorry for my negative reaction within your thread to the mention of that show.
