Have you ever seen a ghost?

Have I ever seen a ghost - no. Frankly, I hope I never do.
If so, how do you apply your faith to the incident?
I was always taught - based on private revelation of certain saints/mystics (yes, I know you don’t have to believe in private revelation) that such an occurrence is one of a few things a) there’s a non-spiritual explanation; b) a soul in Purgatory, needing prayer; or c) trouble.

I was taught to handle such an occurrence by prayer, making no attempt at contacting it, making no fuss (“there’s a ghost in the house!!”) and if it becomes common, to see a priest and/or doctor. The reason I was taught such a detailed plan of action is because my uncle, a priest, had to investigate a haunting. Happily, the good Lord has spared me from experiencing anything like that. The only truly creepy thing that ever happened to me was caused, I believe, by sleepwalking.

I may have seen something when I was younger. I was touring an abandoned penitentiary, and one room had a window with a very bright light shining through it. I think it was totally white, as in, you couldn’t see outside. If I remember correctly, there was a curtain flowing as if wind were rustling it, but I would imagine the window would be shut.

It could have been my imagination (I was in an abandoned prison, after all), or, I hear that children’s eyes/brains are more sensitive than older ones. So, it could have something to do with that.

I wonder about it often, but I don’t necessarily try to reconcile my faith with it. If I don’t know for sure what it was, how can I make a judgement on it?

There was a time when I was a young adult that I was awake in the middle of the night and experiencing a sort of paralysis, and a dark vaguely humanoid looking cloud appeared by the bedroom door, moved over to me, and floated above me. I couldn’t do anything but whimper and pray. It was eventually no longer there. I prayed thank-you prayers until I fell asleep, and went to confession as soon as I could afterwards. Wanted to be sure my soul was right with God!!

I don’t remember it leaving suddenly… or how it left at all, actually… so I do wonder if it was just a dream. If it was, though, it was the realest, scariest dream I ever had (and I’ve had some doozies) and I never woke up from it.

As far as relating it to my faith, if it was real, it was a demon. It felt malevolent. It was pure evil. Prayer drove it off. Thank you Jesus.

twilight zone music

Aw man, why did I have to open this thread before going to bed lol

I’ve had the same experience. I believe it was genuinely demonic. I also saw entities, orbs and white mist in the same house. It all began when I converted to Catholicism. I think it triggered some negative spirits. I’ve since moved and all strange activity has stopped.

Back in the days when rabbit ears were common for TV antennas, ghosts in the picture were common. I’ve seen plenty of those ghosts.

I terms of “Ghostbuster” slimer ghosts, nope, nary a one.

My sister who lived in Tinley Park, Illinois, said she saw a ghost and there were strange things going on. Her husband also saw it.

No, but I have encountered paranormal activity before. During a period of my life when I fell away from the faith and dabbled into the occult, strange things started happening around the house. Objects disappearing and reappearing, disembodied footsteps, a feeling of paranoia, etc. I’d rather not go into deep detail. I thank God everyday that I have turned away from those evil practices.

My dad saw a demon-like figure in his room when he was younger, his childhood home was creepy, I hated being alone in it. He said it didn’t have a face, it had like horns, he was just in his room, he screamed for his mum when he saw it.

Personally, I don’t believe in “ghosts” as when we die we have judgement and get sent to heaven, hell or purgatory, but I do believe in demons/evil spirits etc

No, but I’ve seen a jinn before (they’re kind of like ghosts). It was flying around my room in the form of a moth. It was much bigger than an ordinary moth, though.

I would chalk up “ghosts” to any of several things.

The majority would be natural phenomena.

Truly supernatural would be most likely demonic.

Some may be souls in purgatory.

I don’t believe in Jinns because they’re Islamic. If they do exist, they will be demons.

I have seen some things I cannot explain. I pray a rosary for which ever poor souls need it.

I pray for the souls in Purgatory - daily, but, darn it Colonel , you have me hooked on this one and you’re forcing me to recount this anecdote which had been handed on to me:
The director of a Ghost Conference (yes, they [the conferences] exist, there’s even something called ghostology) . . .anyhow , at the microphone, the director of a Ghost Conference addressed his audience :“All right. let’s see a show of hands please -How many of you have ever heard of ghosts?” Everyone in the room raised their hand.
“Good,” said the director, who then proceeded to ask," Now, how many of you have ever seen ghosts?" Roughly 35 percent of the people in the room raised their hand. “Okay” he replied. Going on to the next question the director asked ,“Finally , how many of you have ever kissed a ghost, or ghosts?”
One man in the room raised his hand.
The director looked at him, studied him momentarily, then asked, “Sir, you have actually kissed a ghost ?!”
There was a hush in the room for about 25 seconds until the red-faced man stood up and said apologetically, “Oh , excuse me , I thought you said ‘goats’.”

Thank-you for this video. I’ve been dealing with phenomena in my bedroom for months. Tried Holy water, and prayer with no result. Didn’t want to discuss it with anyone, and asking my parish priest was a last resort. Finally, in desperation, I started praying for the poor souls in Purgatory. It stopped, and now I say specific prayers for them in the morning and at night. This priest confirms what I wondered, and now believe, and I feel comfortable and safe, trusting in Jesus.

What he told you? I’ve been reading recently about that type phenomena and was very surprised.
I was raised in a Protestant family, so I always thought that these kind of phenomena were always demonic

I was fearful that it could be demonic, and prayed to St Michael, but it wasn’t until I specifically prayed for poor Souls that it stopped. It’s not something that one can easily talk to another person about, but it was a heavy burden to deal with. I’ve wondered if my Guardian Angel came to my rescue, and planted the idea of Souls in Purgatory.

I had a similar incident only I awoke to see a dark form floating high above my bed. It then quickly seemed to swoop down towards me. I screamed and rolled towards my husband, which woke him up. When I looked back, it was gone. I quickly did the sign of the cross and kept repeating the name of Jesus until I fell asleep again. I too wonder if it was just a dream but it seemed to me that I had definitely awoken before I saw it or as a result of sensing something there. Hope to never experience something like that again.
