Have you ever seriously discerned religious life?

I thought Tawny was a female!
Maybe you have a different tawny. I know for sure he is a friar.
Per the user info, tawny is still around and posted last a few days ago.
Oh ok, I think he is more active on the prayer request threads.
That is the tawny I remember from the old CAF. On the prayer request threads.
I assumed tawny was a female. Guess I was wrong.

My last girlfriend, I was surprised greatly,
wanted to become a nun…
Even went to a place for an interview,
They, whoever they were, rejected her.
In her past, she had been raped by a cop.
But I was also delighted that she did seek a vocational life.

I was a postulant at the Sisters of St. Lucy Fiippini for a while when I was 20 years old … to this day I regret having left … although I am happily married with a daughter that I would never want to give up … but I still have regrets about leaving.

Several retreats with a few different religious orders. Eventually I settled on the Capuchins and much to my bewilderment they actually said “yes” to my application 😜. The rest of the story is still being written.

Thank you Cajun! I attend Eucharistic Adoration every first Friday after school for about 30-40 minutes. My parents are rough on Catholicism, so I am trying to take it slow. After they let me take the pre-baptismal classes, I think after getting to know the teachers at our church better (and the Church in general), they would be more open to letting me go to a retreat. Praying for your brother’s soul.

Yes, I love watching them over and over, Fr. Mike’s very wise. When I first started dabbling in Catholicism, I watched all of his videos. I think this is what prevented me from being one of those people that says “Well God isn’t talking to me, so he probably doesn’t love me” and they just give up on Christianity. I understood that I would have to be patient (not saying I am).

Twice.

The first time I fell in love and almost married.

The second time I met another girl and did marry. 4 children and 5 grandchildren later.

I think I was called, but I most definitely was not called to the single life.

Were I that age in today’s Churches, I would probably end up married and a Melkite seminarian, but that door (baptized RC and ordination as EC) has only appeared during the current papacy.

My reading of spiritual literature …
has taken me to the Philokalia…
also to Saint Anthony of the desert…that direction.
I have to admit, those guys had a total bravado.
The stories - are unlike anything I have ever read - or imagined.
To me, that’s adventurous and wonderous.
Obviously - the spiritual warefare, of such intense degree, takes place, that I’d be afraid of…
so no - I’m a chicken 🐣

I honestly feel a calling, though some of you might laugh at that. My chance is gone now but if I had my life over I would choose to become either a Benedictine or Carmelite monk. Don’t know how long I’d last.
My problem was lust so it was probably a good idea I didn’t become one. 🙂

I discerned an older vocation for awhile. We have an order that was started by women who were older. They had been married, had children, divorced and felt they would rather become women religious and use their gifts in that way.

I do not anticipate ever getting married again (I’m open to it but don’t see it happening) and I really looked at this. Since I never felt an affirming answer from God I didn’t make the commitment.

If you are single there may be a place for you as porter in a busy monastery in return for board and joining the third order. I have known some 70 year olds who have done this in my seminary days.

Well you are porter to a very nice, small monastery already even if the second vow may not be being honoured within its cloister 😂.
