I don’t quite get what you mean…
-well, after reading all the replies, I think I kind of get it, but not sure.

You are spending an unusual amount time with the host AFTER it’s been prayed over…or am I WAY off the mark?

I could see a priest, pastor, etc doing this when they have to travel, and give communion to shut-in’s, etc…but, now, people do this, to be close to Christ as they know him, is this right?
This is all kinds of fascinating…

Funny, too, I was about to ask what a Catholic Charismatic was…looks like it has something to do with this? Yes?

Mind. Boggled.😃

Anyone can spend time infront of the Blessed Sacrament to spend time in the presence of Jesus. A Charismatic Catholic is one who believes in a deeper walk with the Lord. You can pray for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit by surrendering yourself to the Lord. There are many charisms or spiritual gifts that you can recieve. A Charismatic Catholic is one who uses there gifts in their everyday walk with the Lord. If you go to a Charismatic prayer group you may see praying in tongues, interpetaion of tongues, words of knowledge, words of wisdome. 1 Corinthians 12: 1-11 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans, you were enticed and led astray to idols that could not speak. Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says “Let Jesus be cursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except by the Holy Spirit. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses.

Check out some of the groups here on Catholic Answers such as Charismatic Catholics or Charismatic Christians and Friends, there is lots to learn.

Where does one find a list of groups such as you described?

I’m not in disagreement. I don’t think one gets any benefit for merely sitting in front of hosts unless their mind and heart are focused on adoration. What I want to say is if you are in “adoration” and your thoughts are completely on your grocery list, I’m not sure you get credit for just seat time.
sorry but this sounds like the words of someone who hasn’t spent much time There…

i go There and like to do absolutely NOTHING… just sit There… and listen…

i think that’s the best form of adoration there is…

if by Liberal you mean they think that females should be priests… birth control is OK… abortion is OK in some situations… e tc… then why would any true Christian seek out a church that taught those things?

also, there is only ONE Church and it is the Roman Catholic Church… all others are referred to as church communities only… Jesus never wanted 44,000 different denominations of “christian” church… He prayed for unity (John 17: 20, i think)…

it is MAN who has caused all this division in the Body of Christ… starting with Martin Luther… who seemed like a very erratic and unstable thinker to me… and not a deep one either… and even if he were a deep thinker… means nothing… you just dont break away from the Church Christ Himself established… and start another so called church to rival it…

very audacious…

but anyhow…

There are many problems in the Church and no one knows this better than i do… & i cn u/stand the temptation to leave… but i will NEVER leave… The devil tries all the time to get me to leave… but he’s wasting his time… What i found in the Church cannot be found anywhere else on Earth… wasn’t meant to be found anywhere else on Earth…

i have been Catholic (and “Catholic”) all my life… and discovering the Real Presence… blew me away also… I didn’t discover Him until very late in life… and wouldn’t have even then if it hadn’t been for a devout priest who told me about this in confession one time… He gave me the Greatest Gift known to man… I go There as often as i can and sit in silence (usually)… just listening…& i see amazing things about my soul and my circumstances… etc… things i could never begin to put into adequate words…

I tell many people that if it weren’t for the Real Presence, i wouldn’t be a Christian, to speak of… well, i probably still would be one… but a very weak one who would sin all the time… and etc… 😦 I’ve gotten very angry at certain people in the Church… sometimes makes me want to leave the Church… but i will never leave cuz of the RP… and confession… and the MASS… all of heaven participates in the Mass… 🙂

what is your spiritual history, if i may ask??

what is your spiritual history, if i may ask??

Hum. I was baptized Catholic, was born in an unwed mother’s home. Beyond that I’ve never “belonged” to any church.

I went to a Protestant church when I was in a emergency placement shelter/home in Philly, what kind, I couldn’t begin to say, I’d guess Baptist. I was about 5-6, so it really didn’t make a whole lot of difference. I did enjoy Sunday school, I can recall.

When I was finally placed in a foster home, I went to their church, they were Catholic, went there for 10 years.

When I moved from there to a group home, I went to a Presbyterian church, it was a presbyterian home;0). I was there for, well, close to 2 years in the group home.

-after that, well, it was kind of whatever seemed interesting at the time, and slowly, well,I just fell away from it all…way before my child was born I started to realize that organized religion was just…well, rules made by man. People take comfort in those rules, but. well, the rule books, stories, what have you, they are books. Written by men.

But. Hey. You learn something every day. And when it comes to religion, I am always trying to understand our place in the cosmos…you know?

SO, that would explain my interest in this forum; if I had to pick a church I would begin to try and ask questions of faith of, I’d suppose it would be the RC church. I only went there for 10 years, after all;0)

well, i can understand your… inability to chose a religion… you have been through many changes… I have also… altho i grew up in one family… but i have moved around a lot and been kinda unstable here & there… & i have also been confused about religion… still am about certain things… but nothing big…

anyway, the Real Presence is what takes away ALL my doubts or questions or wahtever… and at one time there were SO many of those…

it is SO nice not to have massive questions anymore… no serious ones…

God is not the author of confusion and definitely doesn’t want us to be confused about what matters most… where we end up after death…

children are a “religon” all their own… i mean, other than the Church, i feel closest to God when in the presence of young children… 🙂
.

meaning those who believe radically differently than i do…
Yeah. I get that part (the “unequal”) what I don’t get is the “yoked” part. Most people interpret that to mean marriage.

If you’re trying to say that you can’t even talk to a person who believes differently than you… why the heck are you in the Non-Catholic part of these forums?

talk to… yes… as long as the person shows courtesy…

get into some bit argument… .where you treat me like something less than a human being … forget it…

and no, it doesn’t pertain only to marriage… If you are closely involved w/ unbelivers… you will take on their ways… and eventually fall from Jesus… and there will always be disagreements, etc…

“What fellowship hath light with darkness”… etc…

Here is a link to a website that lists about 30 spiritual gifts and it gives the scripture references to find them in the Bible.

Sorry it took me so long to respond to your information…just read the page.

Now, see, as I was reading this, I’m thinking to myself, don’t people strive to do most of these things as a matter of course? I know I try to, well, I don’t succeed a lot of the time, and I have to remind myself to be more charitable. It’s a ongoing war with me…ha!

Mind, there are a few things I don’t do, don’t speak in tongues…unless you want to add swearing…ha.
Yeah, I have a nasty mouth, and a terribly crude and cynical sense of humor, I suppose it’s a defense mechanism.
See, told you I have a ongoing battle with my moral code…

Now, what would be the point of speaking in tongues, if no one can understand you? Am I missing something here?

-and being in the presence…this is confusing me. You’d have to have a special mass for this, yeah? Every mass I’ve gone to, they have communion, they finish the service, put the host away, and that’s pretty much it. I’ve never seen anyone hanging around afterward…

Now…do people HAVE to follow these rules to be a charismatic (?sp), or…this is what they strive to? 'cause I’m seeing celibate on the list, and well, if you are doing this, I’m guessing you aren’t married, or…well…you have some kind of agreement…

And…
-is this an actual offshoot of the RC church, or part of the church, and you just tend to focus on different parts of your faith?

If I am offending in any way, I am sorry in advance…I am just really curious. That’s just me…my curiosity used to get me in some trouble when I was a kid, now, well, it just seems to make me bizarre, I suppose.

I also am a open book, and honest to a fault. SO, most people think I’m a bit too trusting, and really touched in the head…😃

I suppose I could understand where you are coming from…
-but (always a “but”…HA!)

If you were strong in your faith, why would you let that worry you?

Of course, generally speaking, you wouldn’t really want to be hanging out with people who weren’t religious, anyhow, I’d gather, just human nature. I’d venture to say you wouldn’t have much in common.😃

-you know…I’m thinking, too…the host to Catholics is the ACTUAL body and blood of Jesus Christ, right?
Protestants (far as I am aware) don’t see it that way. The host represents Jesus. It’s still a piece of bread and wine (or grape juice) so how would being in the real presence mean anything to them?

Again, I am not trying to be a smart alack, I really am wondering about this…

In addition to RCs or those in communion with them, there are a number of other folks who believe exactly what the RCC says about the Real Presence. Anglicans like me, for example. The consecrated elements are the Body and Blood of Christ.

Oh, ok. I see.

I thought the Anglican Church was akin to the Episcopal church in the US? Or am I way off the mark?
I wasn’t aware that they believed that the host literally was the body and blood of Christ, least my friend’s church doesn’t believe this.(Episcopal)
Now, are there off shoots of the church? Or no?
(I think I’m not expressing this well…)
Are there more conservative parts of the church that believe this, and others who do not?

Of late, that first sentence below is getting more and more difficult to comment on. But that’s beside the point, here.

Officially, the Episcopal Church is the local representative jurisdiction of the worldwide Anglican Communion (those Anglicans in communion with Canterbury) in the US. And there are Anglicans in the US who are neither Episcopalian, or in communion with Canterbury (not part of the official world of Anglicanism, that is). Offshoots, some might call them, yes.

And, to make confusion more assured, within Anglicanism generally there is a range of belief, on many, many points (once upon a time, there was a core of mere Christianity at the center of it all, but that is no longer the case. But I digress). This range runs from the more reformed, evangelical side, over to the Anglo-Catholic side (where I live) and beyond. The distinction then, is not so much between the conservative or not so conservative sides (though such distinctions can be made) but on the distinctions dividing the reformed/evangelical side from the more Anglo-Catholic side. Like the Real Presence.

Don’t worry about not asking the question well. It takes a road map to follow Anglicans, especially these days.
