Hi!

Have you ever thought of writing a devotional book or Christian books based on your own Christian spirituality?

Lately I’ve started writing a book on free verse poetry based on verses I’m gathering from The Gospel and The Psalms. I’ve given myself one year to write this book. I’ve already onto designing the book cover. Is this also considered a kind of devotional Christian book?

I’m fairly new in being serious about my spirituality in Christianity and I’ve recently been going to Sunday Mass without fail. Some years back, I’ve accepted Christ in the normal church but never gone to the church regularly and only randomly. I’ve gone serious recently in going to church because all these years I’ve been living with a lot of problems and when I started praying hard recently, I had miracles happen and I now truly believe in the Lord Jesus totally. I thought reading The Gospel and The Psalms and gathering verses to write free verse poetry would be helping my daily Bible reading as well as produce a beautiful book of praising the Lord. Free verse poetry is something I’ve been doing and it’s my best skill.

What kind of writings have you done to praise the Lord and to celebrate your Christian spirituality? I’m curious about that. Getting inspiration from the Lord is so beautiful.

For what it’s worth, yesterday I wrote a single line of what I hope becomes my first crude poem in praise of the Lord.

I wanna practice because one day I’d like to dedicate a poem to my future wife.

I think what you’re doing is fantastic, think about king David when he was writing the psalms, he must have been in a really deep spiritual place. That’s a great place to be in, and I hope you can reach that place and stay there for as long as you like!!

It’s ok you don’t have any advice. I enjoyed reading what you said. I didn’t know King David wrote the Psalms. Great for me to check up on it. I’d love to reach a deep spiritual place like him too! 🙂

I’m working on a book that’s going to be apologetics mixed with my own conversion story. I’m giving myself a 7 year time frame for that. I’d also like to write something about Ignatian Spirituality but, that may be above my paygrade. I used to write a lot of horror/thriller, even got some stuff published and have one and a half novels in a bankers box that will never see the light of day.

If the Lord is leading you to do it, go for it. I like reading things from other lay Catholics.

I was searching for God about twenty years ago, and I also found that putting my thoughts in writing helped me to develop my own faith. My writing is mainly for an audience of one, and sometimes I share thoughts on forums like this.
I hope your writing helps you too.
