Have you had your heart transplant operation yet?

Ian Kerr, an English Catholic theologian compares receiving the Holy Spirit to getting a heart transplant.
“So in effect what we have here is an extraordinary promise that human beings, wounded by and suffering from sin, are going to be donated something that belongs to their creator. God as donor, will arrange for the transplant of His spirit into us.”
I just thought I’d share that analogy which personally I find fresh and thought-provoking.
I’m wondering whether my body rejected the transplant or not. Because there are days when I don’t feel charitable towards my neighbour. 🙂
 
Miracles don’t just come from ancient stories and myths–everyday miracles are all around us, if we only have our eyes open to see them.
 
Thought provoking, yes, but the metaphor is a bit of a stretch.

In my opinion, God does not discard our heart or spirit, as if it were irremediably diseased. It is part of us and always will be. What’s needed is to strengthen and heal it, which is a process that takes some time, even a lifetime.

Maybe the metaphor can be patched up: Our heart is unhealthy from eating too much junk food and not getting enough exercise. The doctor tells us to exercise and eat healthy food and we begin, but it’s difficult and we still sneak some snacks that the doctor told us to avoid. Even so, our heart begins to get stronger, we learn to take better care of our heart, and in time and it will become fully healed.
