At the church here for Sunday Mass we had a new hymn, You Have Anoited Me. It was sung at the Offertory.
What new hymn are you learning?

Next Sunday, I’m going to learn how to sing Choral Evensong. We’ve recently stepped this up to a once a month event in our local Ordinariate group. I’d highly recommend anyone who has an Ordinariate parish nearby to attend when Evensong is offered if you like traditional music/chant.

Hi,

I have just started attending the Ordinariate too! I’m learning the chants.

I had been hoping to re-experience the old Anglican hymns I loved so much, eg. Come Down Oh Love Divine, Guide Me oh Thou Great Jehovah, Love Divine All Loves Excelling, but so far the hymns have been traditional, but obscure, ones with a distinctly “Catholic” bent. Still, I’ll stick with it and attempt to steer the direction of the music.

Catholic don’t use the word Jehovah. So, you likely won’t hear that one.

You have just used it yourself! You are referring to a recent liturgical directive, not a fundamental of Catholicism.

I still love that hymn. There is a long way between myself mentioning it as one of three "for example"s in a CAF post, as part of quick response in the middle of a work day, and it appearing in any liturgy.

Thanks for hijaking the thread.

Of course, that particular hymn has an alternative version “Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer” which could be used.

I would love to learn a good, solid hymn (or song). A lot of the new stuff that is put in the OCP missals each year is never good - either the congregation can’t sing it, it sounds bad, or the lyrics are questionable. There are some old hymns I wish they’d bring back into their missals.
