Have you made a mistake here on CAF and want to retract?

Louie1983 puts it well!

I’ve certainly written posts here I wish I had made clearer before posting. In some cases people have taken the time to ask me for more details, and in SOME of those cases I’ve manage to clarify things enough that we have a useful conversations.

In most cases I hope other people have the same reaction as me - learning from my mistakes.
Thankyou!

There isn’t too much that I regret. If someone says that I was off base I will apologize at that time and hope they accept the apology.

I regret that I lose patience sometimes. Since I blog on the mostly Muslim topics - it is really easy to lose patience. and I agree with the previous poster about clear notes, but that is sometimes a problem with my writing style.
Know exactly how you feel, but remember you can’t fight fire with fire.

Heck yeah - anyone says as much as I do, they’re bound to stick the hoof in the mouth on more than a few occasions.

In particular there was a thread about ladies with long hair v short hair that got rather heated on my part as I recall … I heartily apologise to anyone I may have offended there.

Who won? long hair or short?

Oh no, I ain’t getting back into that stinkin’ can of worms again… as I recall both sides stood firm and weren’t swayed from their original views or preferences. The usual result of such debates 🤷

I wonder if claiming your personal “truth” however true might think it is, is worth much when you have so alienated your listener that they can’t hear you anyway. It seems then, you have sacrificed to your “personal” need to claim truth rather than actually helping to change the mind of another to what you perceive is truth.

I don’t know if that is lack of humility, or pride or what, but I wonder if God requires us to shout down those who disagree with us as proof of our “faithfulness.” I shall ponder that in upcoming days. I do need a break from all this hostility here for sure.
you sound like a person who knows my every motive…

too bad you don’t…

i don’t regret much of what i have said, but i know i am human

(hard to believe, i know :D) so i KNOW i haven’t always said things the very best way possible…

It is very easy to be misunderstood on this forum because absent are:

inflections in the voice (words)…

knowledge of a person’s motives…

knowledge of what the poster truly intends to say…

if i’ve offended anyone, it is not because i intended to do so… and i am sorry…

but i am NOT sorry for stating truth as i see it… and i am not sorry for standing up for Catholicism… which is absolute truth in a world that doesn’t know much about objective moral truth… (and/or acts like it doesn’t)

Some people, it appears, do not seem to listen to their own words or, at least, apply them to themselves. Do not let that get you down, distracted. Remember, you will always know your motivations, no matter how much someone slanders you. In addition, I have noticed that you actually do listen to people, admit mistakes when you make them and your open to charitable and well meaning correction. Those are all very good qualities.

Not exactly a retraction, I guess, but I am guilty of at least one instance where I tried to give encouraging, supportive advice & put a situation in perspective, and instead it sounded like I was telling the anguished poster to suck it up and get over it- not what I meant to say! It just came out with the wrong “tone” somehow, didn’t even realize it sounded like that till I read other replies later on. Maybe I should have posted again to clarify but I opted not to, rather than dig the hole any deeper. :o It reminds me though to give the benefit of the doubt to others, if a post rubs me the wrong way when I first read it.
