Have you met or seen a famous person up close? If so, who was it?

I met Phyliss Schlafly when she came for a local book-signing at a Zondervan Bookstore. Strange how the local Catholic newspaper made no mention of her arrival.

Also met Jack Kemp, and later, Pat Buchanan when they came to town. Someone chucked a snowball at Pat at a local parade.

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani - I didn’t exactly meet the Mayor, but was less than 10 inches away from him as he walked past the sacristy to go to a memorial mass of one of our Firemen who died in 9/11. I was the substitute sacristan that day.

I was next to my mom when she was talking to a football coach and I’m pretty sure it was Time DeRuyter but she said it was a coach for some football team in California.

Ed O’Neill (Married With Children and Modern Family)
Carolina Herrera outside Bloomingdale’s in Manhattan
Andrew Cuomo coming out of H & H Bagels on the UES
Yoko Ono in Central Park (at least I think it was her)
Mark Steyn (political commentator) in midtown Manhattan
Jim Carrey (I was in a taxi going down Park Avenue and he was standing at the curb outside a hotel)

I grew up in Los Angeles, where celebrity sightings are common.

When I was a kid, they filmed an episode of CHiPs in my neighborhood, and I got Erik Estrada’s autograph. One Christmas, Vanessa Williams and her then-husband Rick Fox of the Lakers were at our church for Christmas Eve Mass.

When I worked in a pet shop in the early '80s, I met Charles Bronson, George Peppard, Jane Fonda, Barbara Bel Geddes, Dudley Moore, and session guitarist Waddy Wachtel, who were all customers.

Then as an electrician, I met businessman Armand Hammer, film producer Aaron Spelling, Jay Leno, Dee Snyder of Twisted Sister, Disney CEO Michael Eisner, and I was in an elevator lobby when former president Ronald Reagan was escorted past by his security team.

Lots of awesome additional contributions since I last checked in. Sounds like some of you who live in areas like NYC, Washington D.C, L.A, Rome, Lindon, etc where famous people tend to visit or reside than people who live in the heartland.

This does seem to be the case. I was talking about this with my mom, who’s 93 now. She lived in Santa Monica during the late 1940s and early '50s. She told me that one time Peter Lawford sat next to her in a movie theater. She worked in the building where couples had to go to file for marriage or divorce, and there she saw Elizabeth Taylor with Nicky Hilton. She also saw Marylin Monroe in that building.

Nope. My wife took care of Stephen King in the ICU one time, though.

She also met the lead singer for the Black Crowes at a crosswalk in Nashville, TN.

She also met Christopher Walkins’s mother.

Wait, I did meet the Oakridge Boys when I was really young…
