Feanaro's Wife:
It is not a need, it is a wish.

The wedding was a valid sacrament and I do not need to get re-married. My intent is to reaffirm how we feel for eachother under God.

I have heard references to people renewing their vows but never paid much attention to whether or not the couple was Catholic, so I was not sure if this ws something that Catholics even considered doing.

I hope that explains it.

No catholics do it also… There were a few couples in my parish who renewed their wedding vows, nothing against the church or God.

It’s not that I think our original vows weren’t valid…I know they were. And it’s not that I think if we don’t renew our vows that we aren’t really married.

Maybe I am thinking about this in a more romantic kind of way. Not that renewing our vows would be cool, but that it would be sweet, and a great way to express to my hubby that I am grateful to have a spouse like him. And that although we may have been emotionally immature when we got married, I don’t regret it at all and hope that every year of marriage is even more wonderful than the previous.

Also, since I was not a Catholic at the time, I would like to renew our vows once I become Catholic. It is not a matter, to me, of whether our original vows were valid… just a way to affirm them.

I posted this question to get info… and from all of your answers so far I am getting that to renew our vows we don’t need to be in Church or have a priest. We could do it in a huge ceremony, or just the two of us on a beach etc. Renewing our vows will not make us be any more married than we already are, but it could add to the romance and the love. Do I have it straight?

I would suggest it though in a church because he makes it extra special with you and Uncle Feanaro celebrating it with God.

If you have, please share why you chose to do so…and how you did it.

If you would never, why?

My hubby and I have been married 6 years and I have always wanted to renew our vows… maybe around ten years together. My reasons are that we weren’t quite ready for marriage at the time (although we didn’t see it that way, lol) and we now realize exactly what it means to be married. We have both grown up alot since the wedding (both emotionally and spiritually). I would love to renew our vows now that I feel like I should have felt the first time.

Thanks!

My Parents did last year, for their 25th anniversary. They had a small party and invited our Priest. They renewed their vowes and they took the candle from their wedding and lit all of us kids baptismal candles as away to show how their love had grown over the past 25 years.

My husband and I want to renew our vows someday in the church he proposed to me in. It was to small and to far away to have our actual wedding there.
