Have you read the first Encyclical Letter written by Pope Benedict: ‘DEUS CARITAS EST’? (God is Love) ❤️?

What is your opinion about it?

It took me about a week to study Ecclesia de Eucharistia. It was well worth it.

Thanks for the link. I’ve been meaning to look this up and download but haven’t gotten around to it. You just made it easy and no excuses for me not to get to it!
 
I read it the week after it came out and thought it was excellent. It is very readable and short. Even so, to get a good feel for it, I’d read it over quickly once, then go back and read it more slowly. If you do, you’ll find a lot of gems that weren’t apparent at first. I hear a lot of JPII in it, and I think it’s by design, as a sort of bridge of continuity from that pontificate to the present one.

The letter is divided into two parts, so if you get a good feel for the first part, the second part really comes alive.

I thought the letter itself had the tone of a personal letter. It is also clearly a preparatory letter, by which I mean I expect B16 is setting the table for the direction his pontificate is moving, based on the direction he sees society has taken and where it is going and needs to go. If you read his weekly audiences (available on ZENIT), you see can see this development.

Stay tuned – it should be interesting.
 
IMHO this encyclical is a “foundational” one that Benedict intends to build on, in addressing some of the big issues in the Church. In other words, he wants to start out by getting us all on common ground re: Christ and his commandments, and what those mean. It should be easier to defend and clarify the doctrine in areas of challenge once this is out and digested.
 
Yes I have read it! Wow, it is really good! I knew that JPII had written some of it, but it really gives new depth to Benedict’s personality. He is truly a great pope as well. I finished most of the Encyclical with a friend of mine during class yesterday (Ash Wednesday), and I had been fasting all day and I was starting to get hungy. But when I finished it I realized that I wasn’t hungry anymore. I needed to trust in God to sustain me. It really was “food for thought”.

Benidicts’ Encylcical was so beautiful. It is really deep, but really straitfoward. I throughly enjoyed it.
