Have you read the Bible all the way through?

Have you read the Bible all the way through from start to finish? From cover to back? I did once about 2 years ago. I read it through from Genesis to Revelation. I read about 10 chapters every day. Since I was a Protestant at the time, I didn’t read the deuterocanonical’s. But being Catholic now, I did eventually read them. I have actually read the New Testament through multiple times though. I continue to read the Bible everyday. I read the daily readings off of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishop’s and I reflect on the reading throughout the day. It’s a good spiritual practice. And when Easter time comes around I read all four gospels. It’s a little tradition I made for myself. So, have you read the entire Bible? And how often do you read the Bible?
 
I have not. I look up random topics online and see if there is scripture that relates. Some days I will crack open my bible and read whatever page I am on. I love the Proverbs, wisdom of Solomon, sirach, ecclesiastes. I have read each of those through.
 
I have. While in college I minored in religion and one semester studied the Old Testament and another semester studied the New Testament.
 
I have read the Bible all the way through. After my divorce I was struggling and almost joined the LCMS (Lutheran Church Missouri Synod) At that time they had a Bible Study from start to finish for two years with a lecture each Sunday in Bible Study from the Pastor.

Granted it was seen through “Lutheran lenses” in many parts but it was my dream come true to read it start to finish and well, myself, I couldn’t get it done . Got stuck in Numbers every time.

Learned so much and am grateful for that to this day. Now I tend to read here and there.

Returned to the Catholic Church and am blessed to often be a daily mass attender to hear the word of God and receive Holy Communion often.

I have, but have lost track of the number. Now every day for several years, I read a section from the OT, a psalm, and sections of the NT and Gospel. It’s a continuous thing so usually the readings don’t seem to be connected. But sometimes they are so close in theme or one quotes another section that it makes my day. 🙂
 
Yes- As a child and again as an adult.
There’s always been a Bible in my home. 🙂
 
Three times, each with a different translation - the first was the Christian Community Bible (basically copied from the Jerusalem with cornier notes), the second was the Jerusalem (yay!), and the third was the NAB Revised Edition (:D)

Now working my way through the Douay-Rheims. Started last month, at Exodus 15 now. 🙂
 
I haven’t. I’m working on completing the New Testament, though! I’m on the Gospel of St. Luke. 🙂 I’m reading the RSV-CE.
 
Yes, I’ve attended Bible Study Programs since childhood. Also, when in Third Order Formation.
 
Reading the Bible is noble, praying it even better, but living it cover to cover, now that’s the claim I someday hope to be able to make!

Including the food laws in Leviticus? No way, I’m not giving up my shrimp or my pork chops. 😃

Yes, when I was a fundamentalist I read it through using bible reading plans a number of times. It is a good thing, of course, but my own feeling is that it is much better to read just two verses with prayerful attention than to read three chapters a day in a slapdash manner just to say you have read your bible quota for the day.
 
Protestant translations – 12 times at least; Catholic translations 2 or 3 times.

As regards just the New Testament, at least 60 times; for some books/passages the count mounts into the hundreds. That comes from being in “Bible-believing” Protestant churches 😃

It’s on the agenda for next year (“the Bible in one year”).

I attempted before but illness issues got in the way and I didn’t finish.

I had a Jewish friend once tell me following the laws of Leviticus are actually really easy when you’re in a community of other people who also follow the laws. But when you’re in a community of people who do not follow the laws… then it’s hard.
 
Once breezed thru as a kid.

Harped on revelation a few times with a friend. We really were looking forward to the fun 🙂

They’re actually not that hard to follow here, where vegetarian food is the norm, pork is not easy to get (we’re 20% Muslim), prawns are expensive, all meat is “halal” (again, we’re 20% Muslim :)) and unleavened bread is a traditional food. I was just being facetious. 😃
 
I have read the Bible cover to cover in the King James Version, and I’m now reading the separate “Apocrypha” volume in the same translation.
