Have you seen the new movie risen yet?

Risen is the epic Biblical story of the Resurrection, as told through the eyes of a non-believer. Clavius (Joseph Fiennes), a powerful Roman military tribune, and his aide, Lucius (Tom Felton), are tasked with solving the mystery of what happened to Jesus in the weeks following the crucifixion, in order to disprove the rumors of a risen Messiah and prevent an uprising in Jerusalem.

I was thinking on going to see it but I wonder how accurate it is? Is it another movie like nothing a few years back? I would love it if they got it right this time.

It was ok. Worth seeing, no crazy inaccuracies, it seemed a bit slow to me.

Now young messiah…that’s a great film.

I really want to see both (Risen and The Young Messiah). I’ve read some good reviews on both movies.

I saw it. There were no *surprises *in the story, if that’s what you mean. It was a good, not great, movie. :twocents: Very satisfactory entertainment.

And I am glad I saw it, as among my primary intentions was to support any effort to return sword&sandal biblical efforts to Hollywood.

On the other hand, I have heard enough about Anne Rice’s *Young Messiah *to not wish to see it :ehh:

I agree on Risen. It was nice. Not Bad. Didn’t have a “wow” factor either though, I thought.

I actually really enjoyed “Young Messiah”.

I really liked Risen. It had some very poignant moments, definitely worth seeing.

I have never liked Ann Rice and her “I’m Catholic, no, I hate the church” farce of a few years ago did nothing to endear her to me.

I enjoyed both Risen and The Young Messiah.

But while Risen is orthodox, The Young Messiah is not. It’s a certain teaching that Jesus always knew who he was, and didn’t learn it. Apologist Dave Armstrong has detailed the issue on his blog. Christ has two natures (what he is); and he is one Person (who he is). The film errs in that respect by depicting the boy Jesus as partially ignorant of his divinity and mission. Otherwise I thought it was very edifying.

Risen suffered from the same annoying trait that you see in most historical movies, biblical and non-, all dialogue is portentous, every utterance is Is In Capital Letters, no matter how banal.

I found some of the acting to be over the top. Yes, the apostles were joyous to learn that Jesus had risen. However, they were portrayed as almost crazed. My DH remarked that they bore a remarkable resemblance to people who were high.

High on the Holy Spirit! I think it’s plausible that’s how ecstatic some of them actually seemed at the time. To unbelievers they must have seemed crazed and delusional.
