Are the Haydock DR Bible notes online? I’ve read many positive posts about this Bible and wanted to view it before ordering it.

Mine doesn’t.Thank you so much for the link. I noticed that the words of Jesus are in red, does that mean the printed Haydock Bible does also?
I have spent much time searching forums at different sites researching which Bible to buy. I thought I would tear my hair out it was so frustrating. I finally came to the conclusion that basically the Bible itself isn’t the problem it’s the notes that are. From everything I’ve read the Navarre and the Haydock DR are the best ones out there with the most trustworthy notes. These are Bibles that you would study from but to large to carry around. I use a missal at church so I guess I don’t really need a carry around Bible anyway. If someone else has come up with a different conclusion please let me know. I’m tired of worrying about it. I am still learning about the faith and have had bad teaching in the past and don’t intend to complicate things by reading notes that I have to be concerned about. I want to know that I’m learning sound Catholic teaching. In the link, are the footnotes really all there is in the Haydock Study Bible?
One review said that the notes in that Bible cover a third to a half of every page, in smaller print. But the online version has very few, short notes. Galatians for example has 14 pretty short notes, including 6 chapter summaries. John chapter one has no notes except a one line chapter summary.
If those really are the Haydock notes I think I’ll pass on paying $129 to get one bought and posted here.
I have a protestant study bible (which cost $27 including airmail postage to the UK) with 500,000 cross references, Greek and Hebrew definitions throughout, thousands of sermon and study outlines, a very full index and concordance, and a heck of a lot more. Trouble is, the theology in the notes is screwy. Is there a Catholic Study Bible similar in scope?
Hi Mike, can you let us know all about your new Bible when it arrives. I think I will be ordering mine next week. I just hope the print is bigger than I see in the other Bibles. It makes me sleepy when I read the smaller print. It’s advertised as large print with smaller print on the notes. I hope that’s a good sign. Let us know.lMarysgirl, this is where I ordered my bible from! I can’t wait for it to get here!![]()
Yes, the notes in the Haydock Bible do cover about a third to a half of every page. The link above appears to be to the Douay-Rheims translation with only the Challoner footnotes (such as would be found in the Baronius Press edition). The Haydock Bible, on the other hand, has many, many more footnotes. In the link, are the footnotes really all there is in the Haydock Study Bible?

Buy it used, perhaps. If those really are the Haydock notes I think I’ll pass on paying $129 to get one bought and posted here.
Phew, thanks for letting me know. Maybe the Haydock will get bought at some point when I feel rich. It’ll have to be new - the 2nd hand market in the UK doesn’t seem to hold out much hope. I have a copy of the Haydock Bible, and it is definitely worth the cost. It is by far my favorite Bible.
I have my copy from the same site. Yes, as has been stated before, the footnotes cover much of each page. Actually, in some books of the New Testament, I would estimate that the notes cover as much as 2/3 or even 3/4 of each page. One thing I would suggest is that since the footnotes are printed in a tiny font, anyone buying a Haydock should invest in one of those magnifying glass bars that fit across the whole page. It make it a whole lot easier to read and concetrate on the text. Note also that this ia a photographic reproduction, so some of the characters in the text aren’t always crisp and clear.Hi Mike, can you let us know all about your new Bible when it arrives.
