Having a Regular Confessor?

First time posting here. I had a question regarding confessors. I don’t necessarily belong to one parish, I live between quite a few, although I tend to identify with the parish of my childhood, but as it’s farther away it’s rare that I’m there anymore. Because of this, I often go to different churches for confession.

Over the past while, I’ve been going to confession more frequently, as I’m having a problem with a particular vice, and it’s weighing heavy on me, meaning I’ve been finding a couple churches that offer confession other than Saturdays. Today I’m going to a new church I found offers confession on Thursdays. Since last year, I’d say I’ve been to at least 5 different churches with different confessors. Is it bad that I don’t have a regular confessor and often go to different priests?

Nope. :nope: In my church we have two :yup: But I totally understand why you would want to go to two. I mean sometimes I feel like the priest won’t think I’m sorry :sad_yes:

I travel for work and will try to get to confession in whatever town I’m in if possible. Never saw a problem with it and often I’ve benefited from the different council of these priests…

by bad you mean a sin, or inconvieniant.

Yes it is bad (not oooh you robbed a bank! bad but) it is bad because you dont have a confessor that knows what your problems are and can give you the right advise. if you go to two priest your kind of hiding information from one.

let me explain, lets say i go to confession everyday, i go one day to Father John and one day to Father Lazerith.

i tell Father Lazerith i have impurity sins. He conforts and stregnthens me in telling me his advise,
now the next day i go to Father John and i tell him i have a gluttiny problem, He conforts and stregnthens me… ect.

Now the cycle starts over, but this time i do the oppiset. i tell Father J i have impurty problems, and i tell Father L about gluttony.

Eventually your ganan get confused with them giving you diffrent advise each day. Maybe Father J will tell you to pray to The Virgen, while Father L will tell you to pray to the Divine Child. there advise might overlap and confuse you

I had a horrible sin that was constantly plaguing me for years. I think I drove all over the place trying to confess to a different priest, for the same reason. I didn’t want the priest to think I wasn’t sorry.

I was completely fed up with myself, FINALLY, and made a decision to go to one priest. One poor old priest who had to put up with me, and listen to this struggling sinner. And it was going to the same priest that helped me see the core problems and associated sins that contributed to my sinfulness. I was able to say bye bye so-long, to that sin, and hopefully never have to be in that world ever ever again. BY the grace of GOD!

I think going to one priest makes a big big difference. You have to make a decision. To play games with your sinfulness by driving around to find consolation with different priests, and perhaps continue in your sinfulness, or facing the same confessor and fighting the battle with the Grace of God.

Now, please, I’m not saying necessarily that is what you are doing. I’m speaking to my own behavior in the past and how I finally overcame it. If it’s impossible to go to a particular confessor, that’s certainly up to your discernment. Just my opinion.

Yea, it’s not that I don’t think the priest will think I’m sorry, it’s just that I want to confess what I’ve done as soon as possible, and sometimes Saturday is too far away, or I’ve just recently went to that same church within the past week or two and I just feel awkward going back so soon. It’s just I always hear about people going to “THEIR” confessor, and I realized I don’t have one single one. I just want to be rid of this sin that plagues me because I feel like I’m just… unclean otherwise and I’m not worthy to say, go to adoration or pray the rosary or something. It’s just a very hard time for me right now and this was one of the many things going through my mind. I appreciate the feedback.

I have a confessor that I go to 99% of the time. 'So the other 1% is another priest. They are both in my parish church and know me well. Obviously, one more than the other. Priest ‘A’ knows my history–I’m a revert-- and EVERYTHING about me. So he can give me advice that is more suited to me. And I am very comfortable discussing anything with him.

If you can pick one priest that you are comfortable with, I think you will be happier and be given good advice.

Thank you for the welcome and kind words. Typically, I’m very comfortable in the confessional. I realize that Christ is working through each and every priest that I have visited, so I am not shy in what I say. I just want to be sure that what I’ve been doing isn’t looked down upon. All I want to do is be clean from sin, and I try to do so at whatever is the closest church/confessor.

Like most, I had one particular vice which I continually fell into. When I switched to my current parish, the first time I walked into my current confessor’s booth, I was not only absolved, but given a set of tools to help combat my vice. After many weeks of weekly confession with this same priest, as well as advice, I was able to rid myself of this constant fall from grace. If you can find a strong priest (I recommend FSSP priests if any are available) who is not only willing to absolve you, but commit to helping you rid yourself of this vice through guidance, you may actually be able to kick this vice.

As long as it is a valid confession, you may go to whatever parish you wish, whenever you want (or need to) to go. Some people like the same priest every time and some people are not comfortable with that. There is no requirement for a regular confessor.
