Having a rough time with this election

The only problem with voting 3rd party candidates is that it takes votes away from viable ones who, though not one’s first choice, actually can win the election. I too would love better candidates whose stances on important issues lined up better with Church teachings and who may have better characters. However, ones that have no chance of winning are a wasted vote–it’s just the reality of things, whether we’d like it to be different or not. 🤷
I have to keep reminding myself that the Lord is in control,…in the sense that we are to pray much, pray for our enemies, and follow our Lord Jesus Christ in earnest…with the help of our Blessed Mother.

With all due respect, how do you figure that? If it is a minority candidate, the vote goes into the big basket of “does not count”.
Bingo! Or worse–it means one less vote for a viable candidate whose values come closest to Church teachings.

I am in Canada and haven’t watched all the debates. My 2 cents is that if Hilary becomes president, things will not go well for Catholics or Christians. I think she is hostile to Christianity and Christians will be crushed with her heal. Every other thing will be tolerated and even held up as admirable and celebrated, but bible believing people will need to change their intolerable ideas. The weight of the law will be posed to come down on those who do not.

I like Bill’s thoughts, above. Mine maybe are not as well-thought out?

… Hillary has a body count and what I have read on it rings real to me. I haven’t seen that for Trump. Yet. Hillary is long-established as pro-abortionist (a stance that fits with the body-count thing), though I am fully expecting Trump to be a pro-abort if he gets in office. Trump definitely seems less-evil than Hillary even if he is more clown. Since its a bigger problem to vote for evil than clown, you can see where I am leaning.

They are both really awful candidates. Trump’s wife may be a man. But Obama’s is, too?:hypno: Yes, I saw some videos on youtube on that, and now that I have seen them I just can’t discount those ideas.:nope: Whatever. We will only be told what they want us to know.

We should vote. It may not matter because we will get the candidate they want us to have. Yes, it seems likely to me it could be fixed. But who can prove it? We can’t; and even if we could it wouldn’t change things. So we should vote, and pray, and keep praying for our country, to the God of Heaven, for protection for our country from the prince of this world, who is so active. We need to be active with our prayer, because that does matter.

^^^I Agree with this 100%^^^

Thanks for the view from above! And what you say sounds true…

It still represents my preference. And by your thinking losing votes don’t count. If favor the republican candidate in a predominantly blue state I might as well not vote?

In this world of negativity I must say I’m completely embracing this election. I think this is the most exciting election I’ve seen ever. I’m enjoying the ride. That being said, no matter who wins our country and our faith will see even tougher times than we see now. People are dying. Vote well.

That is a little short sighted. The two party system sucks, for this very reason; you have two awful candidates and you have to choose one. But the only way for that to change is for people to stop worrying about “being on the winning side” and voting third party. In the long term it could be very beneficial.

In the short term it could give a pro-life candidate a political boost in whatever they pursue after the election.

That being said, it also makes sense to worry about the “here and now” and just try to keep the most pro-choice candidate out.

Either decision is legitimate. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Both are morally permissible.

I like the idea of a 28 party system where the first candidate that gets to 13 percent of the vote wins…

So you want to vote for the candidate who already opposes Religious Freedom?

Trump’s advocating banning Muslims from entering this country – how long do you think it will be before he decides some other faith is persona non grata as well?

Trump is the candidate who just recently proposed cutting Social Security and goes along with the Speaker of the House’s plan to turn Medicare into a voucher program. Is that what you want, really?

Clinton’s platform adopted many of Sander’s proposals, including passing legislation that will overturn Citizen’s United and get big money out of political campaigns – isn’t that something we all want?

Do you really want someone who doesn’t understand why he shouldn’t “use the nukes” and has a hair-trigger temper too?

Clinton, at least, IS a Christian (Methodist), Trump only worships at the altar he’s erected to himself…
:coffee: have some more kool-aid.

First past the post also sucks 😛

Proportional representation FTW! I guess you might have to restructure a lot more than just the names on the ballot though; wouldn’t really work for a presidential election 😛

If a vote reflects my preference it is not wasted even though it may be in the minority.
AMEN, and amen!! I will vote according to my conscience- NOT who I think might appoint conservative SCOTUS judges (by the way, Trump walked those choices back awhile ago). Every point that draws right-leaning people has been ‘softened’ over the past 12 months. And anyone who has said repeatedly that they do not “need God’s forgiveness” will not get my vote. My vote will go TO someone- not voting AGAINST someone.

It surprises me that any even moderately moral or religious person could possibly overlook Hillary’s “body count” issue. We all have issues at times with moral failures, but most of us get through life unconnected with that failure.

Yet I see how people ignore it. Its a combination of common factors, IMO:
  1. Folks don’t want to take time to read with discernment (life is busy and full of so many distractions) and,
  2. Folks trust that if there is anything major they should know about, then the major news media and the government will let them know! They are in good hands…
I think that not believing in #2 can be truly frightening unless you believe that no matter what, God is in charge.

…What heroic faith Our Blessed Mother showed us when she watched her son on the cross…

I would love to know the
Name of a politician who could win the election that is holy, or would fit the criteria of your conscience. I can’t even think of a candidate in my lifetime…

Additionally, the implication is,that anyone who supports Trump isn’t voting their conscience.Perfection is the enemy of the good.In voting third party or abstaining from voting altogether, because one sees both leading candidates as imperfect,is folly.

There isn’t one. But I still won’t vote for someone who openly admits to cheating on their wives, doesn’t think he needs God’s forgiveness, slanders opposing candidates and their family, and backtracks on just about every issue presented. I have to draw the line somewhere.

IMO you have embellished on what you say. Trump has said he only wants to stop immigration from Muslim countries until such time as we have a better vetting system. Sounds logical to me. With the notable Catholics he has in his group of advisors, I seriously doubt he will do anything to bother the CC, or any other protestant religion wither.

As for SS and Medicare, no candidate would suggest that they be stopped. But common sense tells us that some changes have to be made in order to keep both plans viable for those who need them. There are many citizens who do not need Medicare and others that do not need SS. Common sense tells us that if we continue with the programs the way they are they will collapse.

And as far as Trump worshipping at any altar, it is not for us to judge another’s religion.
