for the past few months I have absolutely been slacking in my Catholic duties. Anybody who has had these spiritual relapses if it’s pretty much all of us we understand. I haven’t been praying the rosary at all I deliberately choose to not go to mass on Sundays, i say and did bad and sinful things, I get so caught up in my job and hobbies and school but I just completely disregard giveing our Lord and Our Lady time. I know what I’m doing is wrong and it’s only going to push me further away from God if I continue to procrastinate but I just don’t know where to find the motivation and drive like I once had.

When me and my girlfriend of almoat two year broke up in April for a few weeks after that I was praying the rosary almost every day I was trying to be a good Catholic and example and in prayer. then I just slowly went back to just not caring. I believe in the Catholic church and in our Lord Jesus Christ and I left his mother. It’s just so frustrating to me being 22 and being so conscious of what I am doing and not having the motivation to just put myself back into place. This is obviously not the first time that it’s not going to be the last either but it frustrating

Praying for you, friend. 🙂

(RPR Junior also likes being called Chris(topher). It’s his middle name. He says hi! ;))

I have suffered with periods of spiritual apathy where I have had to force myself to go to mass. I think you have to push through it, the more you pray and go to mass the easier if gets.

Make a good Confession and then return to Mass and the Rosary. Just do it whether you feel like it or not. Everyone, including the Saints, have dry spells when the joy is not there. That is normal.

However, if you are having trouble sleeping too much or too little, too much appetite or too little, low motivation, lack of interest in things you once enjoyed, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, trouble making decisions, irritability or sadness, any of this lasting more than a few weeks, get screened for depression.

God bless you.

Going to mass is a challenge, we often hear about things we should, or should not be doing. But like the Prodigal Son, there are too many temptations in this world, that we have to try for ourselves. Oscar Wilde famously said, I can resist everything…except temptation!

Life is a struggle between good and evil, and the evil often seems so much more enjoyable on the surface, but it affects our conscience, and fills us with regrets and remorse later in life.

Inside everyone of us is a big God hole. We can try filling this hole with money, women, fast cars, drink, drugs and having a wild time, but none of these things will fill the God hole.

Going to mass, praying and striving to do God’s will are the only ways to try and fill the God hole. Doing voluntary work and helping people in need, is a great way of finding God.

Philippians 4,4

Joy and Peace.

Rejoice* in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice,
Your kindness* should be known to all. The Lord is near
Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God.
Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.*
Keep on doing what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me. Then the God of peace will be with you.*

Hello Callme…,
Have you the ability to go on a retreat? This may help you to reboot your practice. I’ve personally never been on a retreat due to finances(I’m cheap) but I do make time one day each week for an at home retreat when my wife is off to the casino with her friends.
It is a day that the tv is off until she comes home. I spend less time on the 'puter(need to spend less yet) and spend more time reading spiritual works, in nature, etc… Having the one day retreat time each week does wonders for me to stay on track. Be well.

OP you are grieving. A lost relationship is as hard as a bereavement… This is natural … “This too will pass.”

I remember reading of a Sister who sought spiritual direction when she was at a low ebb… She could not pray etc…The advice? He asked her what she found pleasure in. Gardening it was for her. So he told her to garden and make that her prayer…

This is what I do here when things are hard. Work at something lovely. The rest will follow. It really will.

I agree. And, also, it helps to have a group of friends who are into their faith to hang around with.

Good spiritual reading is inspiring also.

Go to confession … and then go to Mass and receive Jesus … and go to Mass each week and receive … no matter how you feel … receiving Jesus works miracles. We all go through dry spells … and the longer we let them last they can go on for years … trust me on this … I’ve been there and done that. If you don’t want that to happen then fight it right now and go back to Mass … also pray to our Lord and to Mary … don’t just say the rosary, but speak to our Lord and Mary … tell them what you are going through … they know already, but it’s much better when you tell them … talk to them as if they are your best friends, because they truly are.

Please don’t take my advice as some holy roller just trying to spout off … I don’t mean it to come off that way … I am talking to you as someone who let a dry spell linger for years … and all it did in the long run was cause me much anxiety and extra pain … since I came back to our Lord the anxiety has lifted … I am just trying to help you from doing what I did.
