so i read the little local papers around here, and they have always got st jude, or sacred heart, or our lady of mt caramel novena prayers in them or whatever and they say say this prayer 9 times a day for 9 days or say it for 3 days and your prayer will be answered no matter how impossible it seems…has anyone out there in internet world ever done this im sure you have but i mean…does the impossible become possible by saying a prayer over and over again for a few days come true, has it ever happened to you? and if so, tell me what prayer it is, i’ll look it up and try it, i really am asking the lord in my own words over and over again day in and day out for work…more money, a better place to live, a girlfriend, a car…the esentials and nothing ever happens to me, i feel like im living in a prison, a man made prison…let me know, thank you & god speed.

Whenever and whatever you pray it should always be within God’s will. The way these Novenas are published, it’s as if people think they are magic or something. The Novenas themelves are fine, the idea that you are guaranteed your prayer will be answered the way you want it to be is not. Yes, God can do the impossible. No, He does not have to do it if it is not His will.

It is a better idea in your prayers to place your requests in the hands of the Lord and let go of them yourself. Give them to God and let Him work as He sees fit. What you think should happen is not always in accord with God’s will and may not be the best for you. I know that is hard to do, but if you are not in the way, God can work.

These type of novenas are nothing more than superstitious “chain” letters. God does not work that way. We get all these types of novenas at work in the parish where I am at and we just throw them away and encourage people not to take them Pray to God, yes, but do not “box” God in.

Absolutely they are a type of superstition. From time to time photocopies of novenas are put on the table in our church narthex (presumably the person has made a promise to distribute them) and they are just removed on the priest’s instruction and thrown away.
