Having children is evil

In the short term, life is not something fun

Sure, a few people are happy. They have a job that they like, a wife, decent health… But for most people life is hunger, homelessness, disease, hard work, boring work, suffering, rape, torture, violence, war, imprisonment, loneliness, insecurity, fear. And as the Earth gets more polluted and over-populated, the resources more scarce, and people more wicked, it’s only going to get worse.
**
In the long term, you spend the eternity in a lake of fire**

Since we are all sinners and most people don’t believe/repent/confess, most of them will go to Hell. Catholic countries are turning atheist. Most newborns will be atheist, regardless of what their parents are. Even if it’s their “choice”, it’s a poor choice to make that they are going to regret and suffer for it.

If someone had a horrible genetic disease, and the doctor told them that their children had 50% chances of having it too. Most people wouldn’t want to play the Russian roulette with the life of their children and take the risk of them suffering. Surely the odds of having a normal child are not worth the risk of creating someone who suffers intensely.

Why do people react different if their children risk something infinitely worse, namely eternal damnation?

If someone is good, in my opinion, they shouldn’t create more misery on Earth and in Hell.
Look dude, just because some or alot of people bring up children in a bad way does not mean we all do. Nobody goes to hell without wanting to go there but so does everyone who goes to heaven. Thing is, do you think those people who are suffering from disease, rape, murder etc… want us to suffer and be like them? Do you think they want to continue in their misery? Thing is, alot of people and Catholic organizations help out as much people as they can. Maybe we can’t save everyone but that doesn’t mean abandoning all hope and chance. It’s like saying God and Mary hate people who They haven’t granted big miracles to as we all know God and Mary loves everybody and died and suffered for everybody.

What, should we stop producing children just because they’re at the risk of eternal damnation? What risk is there if we bring them up as good people? No matter how much bad stuff happens to us, we should never give up and kick our dumb thoughts of despair aside. I used to despair a lot that I couldn’t do any good in this world but then the Blessed Virgin inspired me with this thought: I should beleive in myself. I should believe that I can love Mary, that I can do a ton of good because then I will be able to do said good and never give up on it. If I have to lose an arm and a leg and an eye, so be it but I’ll tell all these dumb annoyances to screw off and do what I do best.

So please don’t discourage the production of children. We need them to make the world a better place, and it’s not like there isn’t a chance for everybody else to convert and change you know. Unlike self righteous cynical morons who threw up their arms and decided to pretend that the world is going to fall into total ruin, the Blessed Virgin will never forsake us but will be the road that leads us to God and heaven and I prefer that mindset than being a sitting duck with no hopes and dreams. As others have said, you’re premise is stupid beyond belief. Unsuccessful troll is unsuccessful.

Your solution proposes annihilation as the proper response to evil, when annihilation is an evil itself.
You can’t annihilate or be evil to something that does not exist. Preventing something is highly different from destroying it, isn’t it? You can’t say that each time you haven’t had a baby, you actually annihilated a baby. Or can you?

In fact, even annihilation has nothing evil. God was being good when he flooded the world or nuked Sodom. Murder is evil but I didn’t mention it.
It is not compassionate to those suffering evil because it doesn’t try to bring about good
Shouldn’t you bring good with your own good actions, for example adoption? And not by relying on new children/men who might not be good, and are not likely to be good? You don’t transfer your soul and good personality traits genetically. You can’t brainwash people into being good. If it was possible, it would mean that people have no free will, and that their parents can mold them into whatever they want. So isn’t it arrogant to think that your children would be better than your average person?
and it is not compassionate to those who are happy because it destroys their happiness.
I didn’t suggest to destroy anybody’s happiness, unless of course the only source of happiness in the world comes from newborns.

That sounds like the life choices that people make here on earth that can lead to life or death. Like some people today choose the road to drugs, drinking, or crime etc l
Are you suggesting that all good people live longer than evil people? Or that the verse is only an optional piece of advice and not an universal truth? Because many evil people have a long life and children. If the verse has the meaning that you give it (it being a mere advice for a long Earthly life), it suggests that evil people can walk on the path of life (since they live according to your interpretation) which leads to the gate, and the gate is actually Jesus (as he stated). This is not true. Evil people cannot walk on Jesus’ path. It must then refer to something bigger than Earthly life, namely heaven and hell.

In fact, rich people have a better life expectancy since they can afford good food and good medical care. Yet most of them are wicked and Jesus said “I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.”. This definitely proves that this verse does not talk about life expectancy or health. And the proof that most people are going to hell!

Cymbalta can help.

Hmmm. Let’s see here. You think that preventing existence is distinct from annihilating something. in some cases having to do with individual objects or persons, but you are proposing the ultimate annihilation of the human race. I suppose for rhetorical reasons it is useful for you to try to make that distinction, even if it ignores the meaning of my response.

Is that all you have to answer? Is this a forum for debate or a forum for jokes and insults? Proves my point that most people are wicked. So I will not come anymore.

And for the record, taking drugs/antidepressants is the same as drinking alcohol. It makes you lose control and feel high temporarily. Has unhealthy side effects. Not a very good thing to joke about.

No I’m not saying all good people live longer, I’m saying good choices can lead to life and bad choices can lead to destruction. Destruction doesn’t have to mean hell. Evil people don’t make good life choices that’s why they are called evil, they do evil things. Evil people do not choose the path of Jesus. You live by the sword, you die by the sword. But even evil people can change. It’s when they change that they can make the right life choices. Choosing the path of Jesus, the narrow gate, will lead to life, choosing the wide path or popular choices people make can lead to destruction. I don’t know how to explain it to you any clearer. Most people will choose the wide gate because all have sinned and come short but everyone can and will be forgiven who asks for forgiveness that’s why going through the wide gate doesn’t have to end in hell.

Using your logic, since everyone is suffering, it is good to not suffer, so let’s nuke the world. Nuclear war is good!

I hope you never get elected president. The day after inauguration, we would be glowing in the dark.

Taking drugs/medicine for imbalances in brain is not wrong or bad, no more wrong than taking drugs/medicine for other physical illnesses. No one is making fun of you or trying to insult you but your thoughts and ideas towards life is not healthy. You sound like someone going through depression. It’s not healthy to think the way you do, that’s how people think just before they start to do bad things. That thought process progresses down into a dark place in the mind. Most people are not evil, most people are generally good, not perfect, but most are not evil or wicked.

I think that the OP suffers from a fundamentalist mindset, given the attitude to life and God we have seen in his posts. I hope he sticks around, learns something and comes closer to the Truth.

Are you depressed dear one? Or discouraged? This reads like a diatribe against hope. For what hope-filled person looks at their trials and wishes they had never been born? What person sees that God made them for eternal life and eternal bliss and asks not to hazard the trial, lest they refuse that life and suffer torment, instead? I hope you can get some help for whatever is leading you to such despair.

I think having children is man’s duty - “Be fruitful and multiply(Gen 1:28)”. Usage of birth control is a mortal sin. Sure, God can forgive that sin through confession, but if that sin is repeated over and over again the validity of such confession comes into question, and nobody wants to risk ethernity in a lake of fire because he didn’t wan’t to open himself to receive the gift and joy of children.

Living a single celibate life is of course a possbile way of living, but then God’s expectation of you is higher: “From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.(lk 12:48)”
This is probably why religious celibates are monks.

First of all, note that we couldn’t care less if you are a genuine fundamentalsit or a troll because no matter how much rubbish you spout our and the Church’s advice will serve to lead people on the right path so either way, you’re screwed.

Just because God annihalated Sodom and 90% of the world once doesn’t mean you yourself have the right to do so. God is God, only he has the right to decide who and when someone should die becuase He is the epitome of goodness itself whilst you are a person who pretends to know as much as God and thinks it is in his power to stop people from living life. Now, who does that sound like?

Yeah, you guessed it.

Again with the same ol’ of parents not being responsible with their children’s lives. Let me give you a solution: Why don’t we drop them off at the wild and let destiny decide what they will turn out to be? Or rather, why don’t we go all out with hands off parenting and not teach them the concepts of love and kindness? That wouldn’t be letting children decide for themselves because we wouldn’t instill in them morals and values that will be able to guide them and make the right decisions in life. It’s not brainwashing, it’s assuring their future. A child without discipline and morals becomes a bad child and a delinquent. It’s the type of evil you hate so why are so against raising children up?
I didn’t suggest to destroy anybody’s happiness, unless of course the only source of happiness in the world comes from newborns.
I can see where your loyalties in the pro-life vs pro-death debate. Because of this, we can’t be friends. Children should life life for life itself and not be thrown away by others because of their selfishness.

A mere advice what? What does that even mean? Earth exists so that we can lead a good life and go to heaven with our loved ones and even then, even if you’re an atheist and does not beleive in God, your purpose in life should be to protect the happiness of your loved ones and of your own. Evil people can walk the same path good people do, just as long as they repent and even then not everyone you deem ‘evil’ is really evil so much as confused, sour and jsut has a bad bone in his body. Few people in the world exist who are complete utter irredeemable monsters. But just ebcause they exist does not mean we shouldn’t continue living. Just because rape exists does not mean rape victims shouldn’t man up and become stronger people and get over their ordeal.

Well thats nothing new, everyone knows that because you have a ton of money you’re definitely going to hell JUST becuase you have a ton of money. You see this lady? She’s a millionare and she’s definitely going to hell for sure! now.msn.com/yu-youzhen-a-chinese-millionaire-works-sanitation-job-despite-being-a-millionaire I already told you though, life is worth living for and people can change and just ebcause some don’t does not mean me and the Blessed Virgin are going to give up on everyone else.

Is that all we have to answer? I think you’re suffering not only from despair but also from selective obliviousness as almost every post here as given you reasons why you are wrong. Nobody here wants to insult you or punish you because we all want to help you and and prevent anyone from having such a sick mindset. Either way, you can try as much as you like but you will not make any of us depressed or lead us into your dumb philosophy.

The OP definitely suffers from buying into the culture of death.

I have a painful, degenerative genetic disease, and my three biological children have a 50% chance of inheriting it. I had no idea that I had it when I married and had children but I wouldn’t have done anything differently if I had known. Sure, there is the sense that we are born to suffer, that joy is more the exception to the rule. There is a line at the end of Marcel Pagnon’s My Mother’s Castle which goes something like this: “life is a series of small joys punctuated by unspeakable sorrows, but there is no need to tell the children.” (my poor paraphrase from a not very good translation of the French, but you get the idea)

This is true, psychologists have shown that sorrow, bad experiences of all kinds, last longer and have a greater impact on our minds that the greatest of earthly joys. But life is all we get to work with, to create and work alongside God. I would not have wanted to miss that chance even if I will spend most of the next 30 years in a wheelchair. The saddest thing I ever read was of a woman who aborted her child because she learned that the baby had this condition! None of us is guaranteed a perfect life or perfect offspring.

As for most people going to hell, we practice a religion that teaches that suffering is redemptive and charity covers a multitude of sins. It is not logical to suppose that God condemns all those people whose lives are pure misery to eternal damnation, rather I am sure he ushers them into eternal bliss. The over privileged western idiots who embrace atheism are another story, but not beyond the reach of His mercy. We simply do not know how it will all turn out , but we are not given permission to exterminate the race because things look bleak.

Much of pain and sorrow is how we choose to see it and how or if we let God help us through it. I spoke to a woman the other day who lost her 95 year old mother, she died in her sleep 6 months ago. This woman could still not deal with the pain. She couldn’t seem to hold on to the fact that she was lucky enough to have a wonderful relationship with her mother for all those year and that her mother never had to go through years of suffering like many others do before they die. People need to look at what they have instead of what they don’t. So what is suffering to the OP may not be suffering to many others.

If you look around, at parks, Disneyland, beaches, ballgames, etc. there are millions of people having a very happy time with there families. Even if the really great times come once in a while, there is still great happiness to experience in the world, but sometimes you have to go out and find it. No, it won’t be there 24/7 but I agree with the post that said sad times make the good time seem that much better. Life is what you make it!
