Having large families ‘is an eco-crime’

However many people are born in one generation will also eventually die in approximately one generation as well. How do you figure the population would multiply by four in one generation?
If every family is like mine, with 6 kids, we’ve gone from 2 to 8. I guess you could call it multiplying by 3 instead of 4 if you allow for the parents to die off.

Of course the average family does not have 6 kids, but this is a “what if” scenario.

Turn the other cheek.

Look both ways before crossing the street. 😉

It needs to be realized that populations in industrialized nations are imploding, not exploding. The U.S., which has the highest birth rate of the developed nations, barely exceeds replacement rate. Underpopulation of developed areas (including by then China, and in some underdeveloped places like Mexico) is going to be a very big problem toward the end of this half-century.

Since it takes awhile for lower-than-replacement birth rates to be felt, a lot of people are going to be very surprised in the next few decades when populations shrink dramatically.

Before one gets too fevered about overpopulation, one needs to realize that if we had 50 years with no human births, that’s the end of the human race-totally. I don’t think that’s a likely scenario, but it’s still a sobering thing to think about. It doesn’t take all that much for populations to die out. I have certainly known large families. But I have also known dozens of large families that, in one or two generations, died out completely or collapsed from, say a family of ten children to one or two remaining fertile heirs. It’s very common. I really don’t know what causes some families to expand and some to contract. But you see both, and the latter reminds one dramatically of the actual frailty of human populations.

So the liberals want to sterilize themselves into extinction.

Why is this a problem? The fewer lefties we have, the better.
Correction: they want to sterilize others into extinction.

How offensive.

“Save the world, kill yourself.”

I’m certainly not clueless as to why these people feel this way…I have an aunt who spouts all this garbage. There’s just too many poor, religious, uneducated, republican, etc etc etc people on the earth who shan’t be allowed to breed if she has a say in it.

Should there be some type of punishment inflicted then for deliberately choosing not to get married and have children? While we don’t have our own our ideas will still get into the family tree through nephews and nieces who do marry and have children so even liberal ideas are kept alive in the long run. That’s the beauty of it.

I don’t need to be sterilized. I willingly choose not to have children by remaining single.

Personally I have nothing against large families. I am just upset at them being raised at the expense of single taxpayers.

I’ve heard this before, though I never checked the numbers myself. The way geometric progressions go, though, that would change at an ever-increasing rate.

For example, if every couple had a family the size of mine, the population would multiply by 4 in one generation. Clearly it would be very difficult for society to adapt to that, and poor Texas would be packing them in at 300 sq ft each!

BTW, has anyone ever seen “Captain Planet?” I saw one episode of it. It is propaganda packaged as children’s edutainment. There was an “eco-crisis” (I think the sewage plant overflowed or something) that Captain Planet had to come fix. They vilified a family with, I think, 4 children and praised a family with only 1. They blamed the whole thing on the large family, which of course also had an wasteful big-screen TV and all other sorts of things I guess they shouldn’t have had.

By your powers combined I am Captain Planet!

Captain Planet, he’s our hero,
Gonna take pollution down to zero,
He’s our powers magnified,
And he’s fighting on the planet’s side!

Captain Planet, he’s our hero,
Gonna take pollution down to zero,
Gonna help him put asunder,
Bad guys who like to loot and plunder!

We’re the Planeteers! You can be one, too!
Cuz saving our planet is the thing to do!
Looting and polluting is not the way
Hear what Captain Planet has to say!

“By your powers combined, I am Captain Planet!”

Yeah I remember that. And they all worked for Gaia, the spirit of the planet. OMG Oh btw, did you know the lyrics were written by Phil Collins?!?

I think one reason why the Japanese welfare state is sustainable is because they do not have too many children.
I don’t need to be sterilized. I willingly choose not to have children by remaining single
No need to sterilize people though.

If you want to prevent people from having children, get them addicted to anime at young age and seclude them from the real world. (Trust me, they would develop a fear to socialize with people including the opposite sex). It works in Japan though, and their “welfare state” does not require high taxes.

So how come you (as a Catholic) does not endorse contraception?

I think the article had one redeeming quality. Instead of limiting families, we need to cut out Transcontenintal flights.

Or stopping eating the products of factory farming.
I strongly agree with that. Not only do family farms provide for, hello, families, they have sooo much less impact on the environment. And since the goal of family farmers is less about profit than factory farms, they have less reason to skirt the laws already in place to protect the environment. In fact it would seem that environmentalists would go after the huge corporations who ignore the laws already in place than try to make new laws that punish regular people. Oh well, I guess just because the word ‘environmentalist’ has the word ‘mental’ in it, it doesn’t actually imply intelligence in the holder of the title.

Whatever, just limit your consumption of meat because it promotes the suffering of animals.

Are you serious?

Do you care about starving people? Agribusiness is their only hope.

“The family farm” is a fond myth. They can’t feed the world, and the world needs to be fed.

Oh well I never liked Phil Collins all that much anyway.

“By your powers combined,” – Wow. I guess the Captain is a metaphor for what we’d have if all the little darlings got on board with political correctness.

No wonder people believe as the original article under discussion. They have this stuff on their minds.
