No, because it is possible to inculcate a population that has a low birth rate without recourse to sterilization. How do we create more Hikikomori? That’s the real question.
You have a choice to be hikikomori. That is entirely up to you. As for inculcating a population, explain what it is you want a population with a low birth rate to be inculcated with.

FYI - I proabably speak for others when I say most of us do not understand Japanese language and culture. The original article was UK, so can some one clue us in to what light all the Japanese stuff sheds on this?

The hikikomori are Japanese individuals who have secluded themselves from the world spending most of their time away from human contact (usually they post on 2channel most of their time). Presumably, they do not have much contact with the opposite sex (and promoting this lifestyle is probably more effacacious than promoting abstience only education for birth control).

I see. Then surely Catholics have a response to criticism against large families. While we believe in openness to life, we also promote vocations. Priests and religious have to be factored in on determining the size of the average family. So when we pray for more vocations, we are also involved, indirectly in lowering the size of the *average *family.

The OP apparently did not mean to increase social diseases to curb population growth. In the case of Hikkomori in Japan, this is a social malaise that affects a large part of their young population. It’s their Japanese version of the western PDD and post traumatic stress syndrome. Many young people under Hikkomori condition grow into violent individuals who harm people as an act of getting back at society that they reject (one that also rejects them). Hikkomori is not a pleasant thing to attribute in this thread.

So, Hikkomon = Columbine kids? If so, promoting that is as wrong a notion as one could dream up.

In keeping with the theme of this thread:

I know this large family, many many kids, who I’m sure leave less of a “carbon footprint” combined, than most single people.

I find it amusing thinking about when/if the time ever comes that we reach peak-oil, global-warming, hell-in-a-handbasket end-times, that all of the whiney single and without children people are going to be coming to this family I spoke of begging for food.

For clarification purposes:
Promoting Hikkomori is like saying that we should have more sick people in order to lower population growth and thus reduce the carbon level.
Which I think is not a very wise idea.

Oh, and good luck saving your precious Gaia if all you admit to be ‘good’ is a bunch of prehistoric savages shivering around a smoking fire.
WTF? My ‘precious Gaia’ ? Boy, or Girl, or whatever the hell you are; I’m a Christian, you didn’t get that from the whole ‘anti-Christian’ part of my rant? Do you even read past whatever it is you see that makes you want to spew the idiocy that flows from your mouth like hot bile?

Oh, and I would dismiss that as a simple misunderstanding, due to your differing culture and language, but I can’t. You write well enough here, but i notice on your blog you speak broken ‘Engrish’. I think you just might be some little white kid who is trying to be Japanese, oh so mad at God for making you be born as the person you are. Of course I could be mistaken, but…

You are describing me I guess, but with no belief in God, and a belief in a vague form of “Keynesianism.”

I thought that the vast majority of hikikomori are innococous because they spend most of their life on 2channel.

However, this report argues otherwise.

"I went through surgery for stomach cancer and when I returned from the hospital, my son said: “Please die. I want to claim your life insurance money. So die.”

Thanks; I’m here all week. Enjoy the buffet! 😃

Is this what watching Anime does to you kids?

Please go outside and play, will ya?

What does “what” mean? “What” are you referring to about the detrimental effects of anime?
How about the blurring between reality and life. I mean this thread has zilch to do with the Japan and anime, yet here we are.

Huh?

Nah, anime is not the problem.

Tell you what I’m going to do though. I’m shutting off the computer for the weekend and going on an eco-crime spree with my large family.

Happy New Year!

Same to you, and have fun! 🙂
