People say it’s very easy to have imperfect contrition (contrition from fear of eternal punishment or consequences for your sin) but very difficult to have perfect contrition (contrition out of love of God primarily).
Is there a way to know how the difference in how you feel? I always try to have perfect contrition. Sometimes when I’ve sinned mortally and I say the Act of Contrition, pray and reflect I feel that a “weight” has been lifted from me and other times I do not feel any weight lifted. Could it be because I had imperfect contrition the latter times? Is telling the difference that simple?
