Excaliber,

Probably already asked: have you looked for other ex-JW catholics? (in this forum, etc).

Do you have a prayer intentions thread here?

You REALLY have a tough situation, that is for sure!

Your only solution is to “make it though”, trying to please God. God will help you through, and make things better, bit by tiny bit. Some of that help comes from people in this thread! Their problems are not like yours but they can understand more than you think.

I know, it is so DARN HARD! Hang in there! I very much admire you for being a Catholic in such a difficult situation. Take heart!

I know I’m not much help at all, but God is. I will pray.for you

ROLLTIDE: He’ll have to make up his mind PROVIGIL
Yes, he has to do it. We cannot offer enough encouragement. Ultimately it is up to the person to do this thing.
Hello PROVIGIL

I had to use your post because its the perfect example
of why my problem is sooo complicated.

OR how to help someone who was in a cult.
Go to this link. youthofamerica.org/Twisted_Scriptures/next4.htm

At the bottom is contact information for Mary Alice Chrnalogar, she is the author of Twisted Scripture and is an expert in helping people leave cults.

CALL HER!!! Email her, I don’t care what you do, but do something!
I have a few friends that know of my situation, a few that were in the same cult. THEY ALL have kids
and family, not one actualy has the
TIME to give me ALL the support
I need NOW…let alone if I am cut
of from all my family.
This seriously makes me want to cry from frustration. Who do you think helped all of these people? Do you think we all have this wonderfully marvelous support system??

Stop tuning people out because you think they cannot possibly understand your situation!
I don’t know of anyone ofering free training, and the training that you pay for dosent even asure you a job in this economy.

I think it is close to you, if not, they will direct you to your county – or better yet, try this link jfs.ohio.gov/County/cntydir.stm#57 and chose your own county.

What about depression? I just realized that I have almost ruined
my life, Im stuck with Catholics that can’t understand Jw’s and Jw’s that think Catholics are complete pagans…no middle ground. Jw children are raised without birthdays without participation in school sports or parties, you basicly go threw a morning period for your childhood.

Oh did I mention I don’t have a family myself. Now that’s no big deal to most people, because they
don’t understand me as a person,
they assume I am like them.

But mabey 3 or 4 years ago I decided to have a family, because
I simply was not happy alone.
Then I found out about the Catholic church.

I didn’t think it was a big deal
until I found out HOW DIFFERENT Catholic women are compared to
JW women. Trust me I have spoken to Catholic women, most of which don’t even care about making friends with people in there faith.
I could marry a JW but when she
finds out about the catholic church
it will be world war 3 over the children. So I end up screwd if I get married because I can’t technicaly marry in the faith, and I am screwd if I don’t get married
because it is completely opposed to my whole personality, it would be stupid for me to even try to be
celibate.
I don’t even have a charitable thing to say about this. So I’ll just sit on my hands. You seem like a very selfish person. You totally do not get that, yes, other people have had your struggles. You are not willing to hear what people are saying or listen to anyone who has responded here.

You are not alone in your struggles, especially what you mentioned above. How is it stupid for you to be celibate – does this mean you are out sleeping around? WTHeck!!! Trust me, several people struggle with sex. Even in marriage there are periods of celibacy.
What you fail to understand about the Jehovah’s Witnesses is that they are virtually a cult. His parents are essentially brainwashed into believing JW theology. It’s not a matter of whether they are understanding… they may have actually lost that ability from the detrimental effects of JW culture.
I understand just fine. As do lots of other people. He is not so unique in that no one has ever experienced these feelings of betrayal and broken trust.

catholicxjw.com/conversions.html This page is a link to Jeff Schwehm’s page with lots of stories from people who have left the JW’s. Tom Cabeen served at Bethel, Jeff did. Do a google search for their names online and you’ll get all kinds of other info.

How so? Many early Christians, and plenty today in places like the Middle East and China, have to hide their faith. Why do his parents need to know about his Catholicism?
I can only answer with smilies
🤷 :banghead: :juggle: :dts:
After debating this for some time, Excaliber and I concluded that the best course of action would be to keep his faith hidden for the time being. In this way, he might be able to subtly suggest problems with JW theology to his family, so as they might also have a way out. JW’s are not encouraged to read ANY type of outside literature or to question the faith. If he can plant just enough seeds of doubt in their mind, he might have a reasonable chance at helping them see the light too. This seems more reasonable than destroying all hope of contact and a relationship with them.
OMGosh, are you kidding me? He is going to stay in this high control group, aka cult, atmosphere and he, of weak faith, is going to try to talk them out of it?!?!? Please.
Well for one, I live more than 1000 miles away from him. He also has absolutely no friends or family of any type in my part of the country.
I don’t believe this. I have spoken to someone who lives close to him.
Excaliber was blessed to enter the Catholic Church this past Easter Vigil! 👍
Yes, a true blessing amidst all the craziness.
he simply can’t be expected to be a cult therapist also LOL.
No, but Mary Alice is. I listed her info above. CALL HER!
Just a bad situation that we
have to just do what we can to get
through.

Well individuals can be in the same situation. No real solution, just a bad situation that you have to find a way to just “get through”.

I don’t believe there is a solution to my situation. But I believe there
must be a way to just GET THROUGH it.
There Is!! Don’t lose hope 👍
Excaliber,

Probably already asked: have you looked for other ex-JW catholics? (in this forum, etc).
Hello!?! LOL I have been heavily involved in this thread, contacted a person he does know close to him, and pm’d him. He has not contacted me back.

Also, lots of people have posted links including me, to Ex-JW sites. Most especially Jeff’s.

I am feeling very frustrated with this whole thread now. I keep thinking I’m done with it, lol, but I can’t help coming back and hoping my words can help to make a difference for him and he can see that he isn’t alone. I know that when we are situations, things can seem hopeless and dreary. But I am on the outside, and can see that he does have options. He needs to quit making excuses and do it! If depression is an issue, and I strongly suspect that it is, then again no more excuses and get the help he needs. I posted links above to Job & Family services for our state. If he makes a few phone calls, maybe something can come through. But he has to act on it!!!

Prayers for you, Excalibur.

(And I am not proofreading/editing this post, lol. It took me to long to finish it 😛 OMGosh, it is to long, {giggles madly} I guess I have to cut down somewhere.)

Your correct, I can’t tell my family.
There is no possible way for them
to understand.And most Catholics
can’t understand that they won’t think, they will simply react the way they are trained to react.

Rolltide has been a huge help.
but has a family and a career, he simply can’t be expected to be a cult therapist also LOL.

Sometimes there is simply no solution. Look at our war in the middle east, we are simply in a bad situation with no way out.
Some say just pull out of the war, but we can’t. And we can’t just bomb them because of innocent
people.Just a bad situation that we
have to just do what we can to get
through.

I think you are presuming there is no way out in either situation, which is leading to despair. Despair can be a sin itself.

Correct me if this is not the case.

I have put Excaliber in touch with Jeff Schwehm personally. They have spoken on several occasions. He is quite aware of Catholicxjw.com.

Yes, he has to do it. We cannot offer enough encouragement. Ultimately it is up to the person to do this thing.
I am in NO WAY suggesting that Excaliber not find a support system! However, knowing what I know about elements of his family, I do think there is some potential for helping them with their views.
This seriously makes me want to cry from frustration. Who do you think helped all of these people? Do you think we all have this wonderfully marvelous support system??
Stop tuning people out because you think they cannot possibly understand your situation!
:banghead: sigh Excaliber has come very far since he first approached us on the Catholic Community Forums about two years ago. He does realize that people can understand his situation. I do agree that he is experiencing frustration and some depression. However, compared to where he was, he has dramatically improved!
What about depression? I just realized that I have almost ruined

Now this is a good idea.

How is wanting to have a family selfish? 🤷 I know that Excaliber listens to what we say on here, because he regularly tells us about how he tries out and implements our ideas on here! Frustration at the slow pace of change is to be expected, and normal. It’s not the same as not listening to us.

Maybe you should go over to Catholic Community Forums and search through Excaliber’s posts to learn more about his story… 🤷

Stop tuning people out because you think they cannot possibly understand your situation!
It’s also not so much a matter of tuning people out because they cannot possibly understand, but that his situation is SO complex, that the average poster on here needs to know a lot of back story on Excaliber in order to understand his situation and offer decent advice.

Do you understand my frustration? A person puts on the internet, in a very busy forum, that they are struggling and every single response is shot down in the guise of “you don’t and cannot ever understand where I am coming from”. I’m not sure what was the purpose or expectations of this thread.

I’m sorry, then, I guess there really is nothing I can further add. Best wishes for your mental and spiritual health.

I will offer love and prayers for you, E. Sincerely I do hope you overcome your difficulties. God only wants happiness and joy for us. You do deserve it, at least believe that.

You see what I mean. People mean well they realy do. They have good intentions, I truly believe that.

I hope this dose not sound offensive. But you have never spoken a word to me, I don’t know
you from adam. But you speak as
if you have some sort of insight
about me.

Is it because you called one of my friends? Is that why you feel the
nerve to say you are frustrated about a situation that you are the
least envolved in of anyone I know?

The person you spoke to is a good friend of mine, but we are as different as night and day. Our faith journey is as different as night and day. Our experiences are as different as night and day.
My friend has got children and a husband and other people she is trying to help. If you wanted to know about MY situation, you would have spoken to me…not a friend of mine.

I appreciate you posting some phone numbers. But don’t post messages as if you have been
envolved for years like rolltide.

Like I haven’t already tried your
ideas, which is why I never sent a
p.m. back. I know about catholicxjw website. I have spoken to Jeff…I have spoken to Tom, I have tried to get on there mailing list, I have spoken to priests from
both the Catholic and the Orthodox
churches…I have gone to both Catholic and Orthodox churches.

I went out and got books about
Catholosism…a BUNCH OF THEM.
I have joined a group, gone to bible study. built up the nerve to walk up and talk to complete strangers from churches, both Catholic AND Orthodox. Accepted
teachings that are the opposite of
everything I was raised to believe.
Called over and over to get a hold of priests, and I have been trying every blasted thing else I can imagine.

So I don’t want to hear any garbage about YOU getting frustrated, Or YOU being done with it…DONE WITH WHAT?
Oh my goodness are you going to
stop posting…oh what ever will
I do because you have been SO
envolved. Give me a break.

So don’t argue with Rolltide, he has even helped my sister as well.
He may be on the outside looking in…but you are on the wayyyyy outside looking in.

And lets atleast get this straight.
There are other Jw’s that convert.
But NOT ONE has MY problems or
MY situation, its amazing you would say that when you barely know what MY problems are.

And yes some people did have better support systems, they even
had family who WERE Catholic.
And know you can’t understand…
how are you going to understand
on the computer? Are you for real?
Its hard to get ppeople to understand in face to face discussion, and you think people are going to UNDERSTAND based
of a thread? where did you get your degree in psychology?

Why did you even comment about
my struggle with singleness? Realy
I would like to know why you feel
qualified to say ANYTHING about
MY single state? Sleeping around?!?!?!?!? You are so far out
in left feld, and yet trying to tell ME
about MY sex life? Did you forget
the small little detail about umm…
you don’t know me? I may as well
tell you how to rais your kids, and I never met you…don’t even know
if you have kids…but still have the
nerve to tell you how to raise them, now do you see the problem with speaking on things
you know nothing about?

I appreciate the numbers and links, just keep in mind…I JUST
met you. And this is my life we are
talking about, that’s a tad bit important to me, and to give advice on something as important
as someone’s life… you would at
least know the person a little…
wouldn’t you think?

Oh my goodness are you going to
stop posting…oh what ever will
I do because you have been SO
envolved. Give me a break.
I am sorry I have offended you by posting in this thread.

Peace be with you . . . .

I understand that I don’t have the magnitude or complexity of problems that you have. But I am swallowed up by my own unique problems which have their own real complexity & frustration (I am unmarried and not young, out of a job for years, have an illness…, little social life, caught up in my own bad habits that have spoiled a good part of my life (thank God not drugs or alcohol), caught in a family who fights over significant religious disagreements, etc)

I have gone to others for help, but they haven’t really understood me or much helped me to work against either my external circumstances or my own faults.

I’ve wished that Jesus could come before me in person me as my “therapist”. He alone would completely understand the ins and outs of my life. He alone would know infallibly what I should do. He alone would calm my spirit and inspire it in the best way.

He isn’t there visibly and I don’t literally hear what He says. But I still know that He is there. I believe that He knows me and my life as if He WERE me. I believe that in His passion He suffered my suffering (even frustrations) in a mystical but real way. He KNOWS. He understands.

My problems don’t go away, and neither will yours. My trust in Him is weak. But I believe that I should trust in Him more, and I pray for this, even if less than I should.

Pray for trust. Seek Christ’s peace.

You have a good post here.
Im not having serious doubts anymore.I just have jw teaching burned into my head. And I hate
what is in my thinking.

So I don’t have serious doubts but
the world is so different from the
cult that I just don’t understand it
sometimes.
