Jesus is the cornerstone on which all is aligned. Peter is the rock of the Church – which is of course aligned on Christ as its head so it becomes the ‘pillar and foundation of truth’. Because the Church it is aligned on Christ it therefore must be true and in line with Christ’s teachings. It has the promise of the Holy Spirit to teach the truth and Christ’s promise that it can’t teach in error (“the gates of hell shall not prevail”). See too that Christ as bridegroom has a bride and in the Christian marriage the two become one and inseparable. Christ identified personally with His Church (“Saul Saul why do you persecute me?” [Acts 9:4]) and defends and protects it and desires for all men to come to Him through His Church…I believe that the Rock is Jesus Christ as clarified in 1 Corinthians 10:4: “And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.”
And I believe that the church is under the authority of Jesus as stated in Ephesians 5:23-24 –
The water that flows out of the rock comes from Source Christus and this is the sacramental graces of the Church.
Numbers 20:11 Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation and their beasts drank.
Matt. 16:18 I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.
John 13:5 Then He poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.
Matt 26:31 ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
Gen 2:21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh.
John 19:34 one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.
1 John 5 This is the one who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ
John 21:16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”
Rev 22:1-2 Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, in the middle of its street On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
