A reasonable, charitable post about mixed marriages from 1ke. I feel like I’m in an alternate universe.I am very sorry you are experiencing such hurtful comments and attitudes.
I will say that on CAF I am not a proponent of mixed marriage-- but that is in regard to people who are not yet married who come on here asking about it. It is difficult and it does have significant cautions that must be thought about.
But, none of those cautions should be interpreted as a non-Catholic being “less” or a Catholic marriage being “better”-- there are plenty of rotten Catholics and bad Catholic marriages.
I am sure your husband is a wonderful, loving person. He is equal in dignity to any other person.
I am sure that the comments people make are the kinds of thoughtless comments that people make to people who have no kids, lots of kids, homeschoolers, SAHMs, working moms, etc.
In other words, it is simply people being people. Sometimes thoughtless, sometimes clueless, sometimes mean. That is the human condition.
I am sorry that it is stressing you out. We should always expect better of people, but they will let us down because they are human. For your close friends, tell them how hurtful their comments are. For those who are not close, feel sorry for them and move on.
Perhaps you can talk to your pastor about incorporating some type of ministry for those in mixed marriage. The Church has several documents on supporting those in mixed marriages, perhaps some kind of fellowship with others might be helpful to you.
