Has anyone visited them? Does anyone have any information on them? I’ve been looking for a community of nursing sisters and they look like a very good order.
They are very traditional and inline with Rome. I had a grand-cousin (I think she’d have been?) who was one in the 50’s in the full beautiful habit but she herself died of cancer in the late 50’s. I have her clothing and profession pictures - beautiful.
As I am a nurse, I looked into them in the early days of my searching but though I love them, I am a contemplative monastic vocation. I have the information they mailed me and copies of all their vocational shows they’ve shown on EWTN since the 90’s. I also had bought for $15 I think, a copy of the DVD from EWTN when 2 of their sisters appeared on “EWTN LIVE” with Fr. Mitch Pacwa - great show.
Here’s a few links to them I have - some are articles on them from a diocese or in a blog, etc.:
In this blog site, scroll about 3/4 of the way down to the bottom to were a picture of “Rosary Hill Home” sign is and you will see pictures of the Hawthorne Dominicans, the home, chapel and a young postulant which is a friend of the girl who owns the blog. Her and her friends went and visited several nuns and sisters in NJ and NY. The first in the blog are the Carmelites of Morristown (they are the first of this “nun” section - it starts at the “189 Madison Ave” sign which is the address sign on their enclosure wall. Then they see other sisters and the last I believe is the Hawthorne Dominicans at: 5countrygirls.blogspot.com/2005_04_01_archive.html
The young postulant has since taken her Solemn Vows - article in their website under “Hawthorne Happenings” I believe.
They used to have a house in my diocese that cared for terminal cancer patients. They never accepted any money for their work and their paitents were able to die in comfort and with dignity.
Unfortunately, they were unable to staff the house anymore and they were relocated. They are a wondeful order to consider.
