Haydock Bible- Thoughts?

Hello all. I’m wanting a solid, orthodox study bible. For those that have a Haydock, what are your thoughts? I realize that the Navarre and Ignatius are favored by many, I just wanted some insights on the Haydock. Also, is it a practical family bible? Is it worth the $100? Thanks!
 
I do not have one so cannot comment on the Haydock Bible. My brother is a deacon and he and I share the faith a lot. Recently, he indicated the Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture was better than Navarre.

I have a Navarre New Testament Bible. It is OK but not as great as I expected. My opinion on Navarre is that the gospels are nice to have.

You can save money on the rest of the Navarre version by getting a Haydock version.

I would suggest you save your money and get something that is traditional but not so scientifically dated. The contents of the Haydock Bible can be read online or downloaded for free at several websites, including haydock1859.tripod.com.

Such a small font is used for the commentary portion of my printed Haydock Bible, I find I have to use a magnifying glass to read it.
 
I second taking a look at the Haydock online since it is free.

I currently have the Ignatius, the Navarre series, and the New Jerome Biblical Commentary but do plan on picking up the Haydock at some point. I am also very excited about the Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture series which was linked above, and plan on getting it when it is more complete than it is currently. In addition, I dearly hope the Ignatius will come out with the completed OT soon.

The Hayock is a treasure! Many people dont realize how excellent commentators that George Haydock drew from to give great insights and interpretations on every passage of Scripture. Haydock Bible is loaded with realiable traditional Catholic commentary. In my opinion the Haydock is the best complete commentary on the Bible that is in English, that is, until one day if we ever have an English translation of the glossa ordinaria.
 
Nevermind. I never managed to type out all of the books, but if you go to the Haydock Commentary site above you can get the Haydock Translation to match the commentary. It’s not the same as the Douay-Rheims, but it’s not so different that you’re going to notice much. It only matters when reading the commentary and you might notice that the commentary references part of the passage with different words. Then it helps to have the right translation.
