Before Summorum Pontificum, many priests were interested in saying the Traditional Latin Mass but faced mountains of opposition. In this episode, Colleen Hammond interviews one of the courageous priests who overcame the opposition and learned the Mass of All Time. Fr. Christopher Pieroni shares what led him to the priesthood, his ordination in 1999, discovery of the Traditional Latin Mass, and his being sent to Iraq by his Bishop to be a chaplain. Detailing what path he choose and why, Fr. Pieroni explains why he’ll never go back to saying the Novus Ordo Missae and offers advice and encouragement to priests learning to offer the Mass Said by the Saints. He’s from the diocese of Santa Fe (New Mexico, USA).

I thought it was interesting that he was assigned to military chaplain duty by his bishop… not something for which he volunteered. I wonder how often priests are assigned to chaplain duty like that without volunteering?
 
His bishop doesn’t mind that he celebrates only the Traditional Mass?

And just WHAT is the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, or of St. James, both of which are older than the TLM? Chopped liver?

Remember, there WAS a time when the “mass of all time” did not exist.

The rites are of equal dignity. Expressions like the “mass of all time” (this one was used by Mgr Lefebvre himself) were intended to defend the traditional rite against western innovators, not as an affront to the eastern churches.

The core of the Roman Liturgy, the Roman Canon, appears already with the De Sacramentis treatise, 4th century. Nobody really knows how old it is.

I suppose this woud be as good a point to make as any to mention the Grace-Slavic Liturgy of St. Peter, which follows basicaly the Byzantine order, but substitutes the Roman Anaphora “Te igitur…” for that of St. John Chrysostom and the prayer “Libera nos…” for the Prayer of Bowing after the Lord’s Prayer.

It was celebrated as late as the '60’s by Russian Old Ritualists in Constantinople.

Is he still with the SSPX? Back when he was a Catholic priest, i was very close to him. He provided alot of encouragement for me, and, in fact, believed that i should pursue the Priesthood. When he left the Church i was saddened.
 
From what I know Father is still with the SSPX. And no, he didn’t leave the Church.
