Has anyone read the THE DOLOROUS (SORROWFUL) PASSION OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST FROM THE MEDITATIONS OF ANNE CATHERINE EMMERICH?

There is an account of Jesus going into hell… What are your thoughts on it?

You’re so right! I knew there was a reason I thought He was “doing something”. There were compartments there, and souls were waiting there until Jesus opened the gates of Heaven by Hid death. Some parts were more like what we think of as Purgatory, places of expiation. Devils were able to enter and try to tempt them, I guess. Other parts were less like that and the demons were chained.

I am going to reread that. I know its private revelation and all, but I sure haven’t seen Emmerich’s writings called into question by the Church.

There are serious doubts and theological errors in the works published by Clemens Brentano. Most of them are widely regarded as fabrications. What has not been called into question is Blessed Anne’s personal sanctity.

The works in question published by Brentano are: The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to the Meditations of Anne Catherine Emmerich and The Life of the Blessed Virgin Mary From the Visions of Anna Catherine Emmerich

What in the world has been called into question? I dont recall anything in Dolorous Passion that was heretical. I mean, it was full of things we just can’t verify but what goes against Church teaching?

In light of this article on CatholicCulture.org and lack of evidence to the contrary, I may have been hasty in saying that there are doctrinal errors in Emmerich’s writings. Indeed, the article says that the writings have been recommended by holy priests, bishops, and even St. John Neumann, so I retract my opinion, and I blame a very poorly written Wikipedia article for most of this…

When I was going to an online college a couple years ago we were not suppose to use Wikipedia as a reference in writing any research papers. The reason–Some of the information was personal opinions that were not exactly factual
