“When you see someone whose life is in danger, do [you] refrain from action and simply say to yourself ‘gee, my life is rich and righteous and full, I am going to mind my own business.’?”
If some asks me for help I will take action. I do not offer unsolicited aid in a circumstance where a grown woman is capable of using her own judgment and conscience in making a life decision.
In looking back, I cannot recall one time when I have ever said to myself, “gee, my life is rich and righteous and full”. It is not.
