Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today, we continue Chapter 13 in St. Louis de Montfort’s book “The Love of Eternal Wisdom”: and the SUMMARY OF THE UNBELIEVABLE SORROWS THE INCARNATE WISDOM CHOSE TO ENDURE OUT OF LOVE FOR US
  1. He suffered even in material things, apart from the poverty of His birth, of His flight into Egypt and His stay there, and the poverty of His entire life; during His passion He was stripped of His garments by soldiers who shared them among themselves, and then fastened Him naked to a cross without as much as a rag to cover His body.
  2. He suffered in honour and reputation, for He was overwhelmed with insults and called a blasphemer, a revolutionary, a drunkard, a glutton and a possessed person. He suffered in His wisdom when they classed Him as an ignorant man and an imposter, and treated Him as a fool and a madman. He suffered in His power, for His enemies considered Him a sorcerer and a magician who worked false miracles through a compact with the devil. He suffered in his disciples, one of whom bartered Him for money and betrayed Him; another, their leader, denied Him; and the rest abandoned Him.
  3. He suffered from all kinds of people; from kings, governors, judges, courtiers, soldiers, pontiffs, priests, officials of the temple and lay members; from Jews and gentiles, from men and women; in fact, from everyone. Even his Blessed Mother’s presence added painfully to His sufferings for, as He was dying, He saw her standing at the foot of the cross engulfed in a sea of sorrow.

Whenever we are tempted to complain, let us consider these sufferings of Jesus and also of Mary – both these Hearts endured so much for love of us. When we feel we are without anyone to comfort us or to even understand what we may be suffering at any given time, let us simply remember the scene at Calvary or look at a Crucifix to ponder His Agony or Mary’s agony – whose sorrows can compare with the piercing of those two hearts? His Heart physically and hers spiritually were pierced. By God’s Grace, may we unite our sufferings whether small or great in union with theirs in love and in reparation for our sins and the sins of the whole world.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, have Mercy on us. We trust in You! Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of the Church, intercede for us your children. Come Holy Spirit, kindle in us the Fire of Your Love!

Thanks for your “heart” which lets us know you read and appreciated the excerpts today from St. Louis de Montfort’s " SUMMARY OF THE UNBELIEVABLE SORROWS THE INCARNATE WISDOM CHOSE TO ENDURE OUT OF LOVE FOR US

May God help us to appreciate especially at our Mass and Holy Communion today ALL Jesus and Mary suffered for us and may we offer ourseves totally to them in love and reparation today and everyday.
 
I try, whenever something bad happens to me, to remember that Jesus suffered the same thing for me.
And then thank Him.

There are three stages in the true devotion to the Blessed Virgin: invocation, imitation, and intimacy. When we love someone, we have their name and their memory constantly in our heart.
We begin by invoking Mary because we feel the need for her help. Then we love her more and we feel the need to resemble her. So we try to imitate her. To imitate her, we feel the need to know her better … The more we know her, the more we love her and the more we want to enter into her intimacy.
To live in the intimacy of the Virgin Mary is a great joy; it is the royal way to go to God. With Mary, life is beautiful. With her and in her, one tastes the unfathomable riches of the Savior’s heart. One cannot truly love Christ without loving his Mother and loving all those whom Christ has loved. Mary introduces us to the mystery of the Church. To pretend to love Christ and not to love Mary and the Church is a lack of loyalty, because Christ is inseparable from his Church.
Despite appearances, true devotion to the Virgin Mary is flourishing in our world. She is a sign of youth and a bearer of joy. Brother Gabriel Mossier (Trappist, 1835-1897) said, speaking with experience: “If we knew all the goods brought to us by the love of the Virgin Mary, there would be no sin, no hell, as there is joy in serving the Lord.”

Thanks for your reply, the excerpt and for your continuing love for Jesus through Mary. I can certainly agree with Fr. Bernard that : “With Mary, life is beautiful. With her and in her, one tastes the unfathomable riches of the Savior’s Heart.”

I wondered, however, when Fr. Bernard wrote the article you posted. If he died in 1988 did he still see in the Trappist Monastery and perhaps in those who came for retreats there, as he said: “…Despite appearances, true devotion to the Virgin Mary is flourishing in our world…” ?

It seems to me it has decreased not long after the close of Vatican , leading St. JPII to say:
"…Where the Mother is, there too is the Son. When one moves away from the Mother, sooner or later he ends up keeping distant from the Son as well. It is no wonder that today, in various sectors of secularized society, we note a widespread crisis of faith in God, preceded by a drop in devotion to the Virgin Mother. "( from his Address to the Legion of Mary. in Italy, October, 1982)

May the Holy Spirit continue to work in the hearts of the Faithful, to kindle in them that Fire of Love we need in the Church and the world.

Thank you all for your “hearts” to let me know you read and appreciated the words of St. Louis de Montfort, from his book, “The Love of Eternal Wisdom”. Today’s First Reading for Mass speaks of Abraham’s pleading for those about to be destroyed in Sodom and Gomorrah for their terrible sins against God – may we not cease to intercede for the world today which is so in need of God’s Mercy. Let us especially pray to Jesus through Mary:

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Draw all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of Your Mercy. (Fatima prayer)

O Jesus, living in Mary, come and live in your servants, in the spirit of holiness, in the fullness of your power, in the perfection of your ways, in the truth of your virtues, in the communion of your mysteries. Rule over every adverse power, in your Spirit, for the glory of the Father. Amen. – Prayer of Fr. Olier, S.S. (1608-1657

Just a few thoughts

When we don’t have our most serious prayers answered immediately, or even at all, we might get a bit irritated, asking Jesus why OUR prayer(s) are going unanswered. In that case, He gave us an answer from His own case, to remember. Even Jesus asked His Father to have the cup He was going to take, (the cup of suffering), removed from Him…THEN he concludes His prayer, saying to His Father, not my will, but your will be done. And we know the Father didn’t take His own Son’s massive suffering away.

Just being transparent,

THAT response Jesus gave to His Father, is probably NOT what most people would say at the end of THAT prayer request. After all, most if not all, pray for a good outcome…right? We’re NOT prepared for bad outcomes, that’s why we pray for a good outcomes…right?

So speaking as a Father and grand father, if one of my children or grand children was going to go through huge suffering, or any suffering, and they warned me of it in advance, they wouldn’t even have to ask, I would do all I could to help or remove the suffering ASAP.

So re: Suffering, for us, and by us as God sees it

Jesus said, if we want to be His disciples, we have to pick up OUR cross … DAILY…and follow Him HERE. IOW we need to accept suffering as well. Said another way, if suffering is going to happen regardless, find the way(s) to make it bearable.

Since It’s a mystery how big and how heavy each person’s cross is or will be during their life, and Jesus said Suffering will be with us too, THEN we need to pray mightily without stopping, for His help in getting through it, so we can persevere till the end.

Dear steve-b,

Thanks for your thoughts. The Incarnation is such a powerful and deep mystery for us! Only by God’s Grace can we believe God so loved the world that He sent His Son to redeem us!

The truth revealed to us is: God the Son took unto Himself a human nature, while remaining God in the womb of the Virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit. The great Love and Humility shown by God in this Mystery is something to ponder our whole lives. There is much that might be shared, after reading your reply, but each of us has a unique relationship with the Indwelling Trinity, so I can only reply that my own experience after many years is to ask God within me, for His Grace to know how to love Him, in each one He permits to come into my life.

When it comes to the Sufferings of Christ, I am in awe of His Love and so sorry for all I have ever done to cause Him and Mary the pain they endured for me and for all of us. Prayerful reading and listening to Scripture and the writings of the Saints has been a great help as I continue my own journey Home. The Narrow Road is hard as Jesus explains in His Sermon on the Mount but as we continue to ponder, as Mary did, all that Jesus said and did, I believe and trust that we are enabled by God to grow daily in answering our Universal Call to Holiness.

Please let us pray for one another for the Church and for all those in most need of God’s Mercy.

Thanks for your “heart”, letting me know you read and appreciated the words from St. Louis de Montfort’s book, “The Love of Eternal Wisdom”. The Sufferings of Jesus are sometimes considered only during Lent, but really every Mass is the same sacrifice as the Sacrifice on Calvary, so we need to be mindful of the Great Love of God in sending Jesus to save us, and the terrible sufferings Jesus and Mary endured, especially during His Passion.

It is good for us to ponder – as St. Louis de Montfort did – the many ways Jesus suffered from His birth to His death on the Cross. By God’s grace, may we grow daily more grateful to God for His Great Love, and strive to follow Jesus in all we say and do. May we learn as Mary our Mother did, by listening to all Jesus said and did, pondering all in our hearts.
