We as Christians should leave the judging to God.

When one of our own confirms error, we admonish. Especially when it happens in a public forum as it does here at CA. I do notice that you have just moved in. Perhaps if you were to check out all of the threads, you will get a better prospective. Thank you! Carlan

.
The treatment of TweetyMom beyond admonishment, to the point where what you stated in the first sentence applies numerous times to a few posters, as for you personally I do not know. - just another general observation. I will also say we are all guilty before God for sitting in His seat, but appears intentional on the part of some.

How can you be cut from a vine to which you were never attached?

How can you shipwreck a faith that never existed?

How can we remain in the love of Jesus without ever having been there?
Sitting in the seat reserved for God alone. :tsktsk:

That’s not what the bible says.

Gal 6
9Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest** if we do not give up. **

John 15
10If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love.

Matt 7
24"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine** and puts them into practice **is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

Luke 12
47"That servant who knows his master’s will and does not get ready or** does not do what his master wants** will be beaten with many blows. 48But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows.** From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.**
Can someone please present a single person who is able to keep His commands beside Jesus Himself?

I for one cannot meet that standard; so I’m fully counting on Christ and His righteousness credited to my account and stamped paid in full. 👍
So you spin it , to make it easy for yourself, presumption is a dangerous sin:eek:Carlan

It depends on what you mean by good works.

For example, the thief on the cross was saved.

What good works did he do?

You could say that his good works were 1) belief in Jesus 2) proclaiming his belief 3) confessing his sins 4) Asking for help from Jesus.5) rebuking a man who mocked Jesus
Possible #5 is a good work, but the rest is how one gets the justification one needs to be saved.

If you didn’t repent would you have been saved?

After repenting, if you had returned to a sinful lifestyle and rejected the teachings of Jesus would you remain saved?
As one said in a different context you cannot lose which one does not have. I would like to know what it is like to go through your entire life wondering if you will make it or not. I wonder if anyone would respond to such a thread.

A wonderful and powerful conversion experience Hiskid. God does do what it takes to get us to respond to his actual grace. I do think for most our experience is not quite as dramatic but more of an every day process, however, not anyless powerful though.👍:)Carlan
How has your life changed?

Christians who sin are following the ruler of this world. His name is Satan. The sons of disobedience are the ones who disobey God’s commandments. This is why these former sons of righteousness are now called sons of disobedience. Those who sin do love their sin more than they love God. If they loved God more than the pleasure derived from their sin, then they would choose to not sin. Those who truly love God do not sin which means that they choose to not sin against Him. 1 John 2:1-5

1 John 3:4-9
Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. 6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin (chooses to not commit sin). Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.
7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. 8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning.
For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.

If you commit sin, then you are breaking God’s laws. Whoever commits sin is committing lawlessness. If you truly love God, then you do not sin (you do not sin because you choose to not sin). If you commit sin, then you are sinning.

I agree with you that no one can habitually practice sin and be saved. 🙂 However, only one mortal sin causes the death of spiritual life in our souls. The Holy Spirit will not live in a soul/temple defiled by mortal sin.

Judas committed one mortal sin when he betrayed our Lord. He repented of this sin. Matthew 27:3-5 But, then he despaired and hung himself. This is another mortal sin because He believed that his sin was greater than God’s mercy. He sinned against the Holy Spirit when he hung himself because he insulted the Spirit of Grace by believing that God’s mercy was not great enough to save him. This is why Jesus stated that it would have been better if he had never been born. Mark 14:21 It is better to never have been born than to suffer for eternity in hell.

If we are sinning, then the Spirit of God is definitely not working in us. The spirit of darkness is working in us instead because when we sin, then we are following the ways of the world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air. We are not following God when we sin. Ephesians 2:2

Ephesians 5:5-7
For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 7 Therefore do not be partakers with them.

When we repent and are then baptized, Jesus forgives and atones for every single sin on our souls up to that point in time when we receive the cleansing of the baptismal waters. Adam’s sin and all of our own personal sins are taken care of for “free.” We do not have to atone for any of these personal sins. He does it all for us. He gives us a clean slate.

However, once we have been reconciled to God by the blood of Jesus applied to us through Baptism, then we have to repent and atone for every single personal sin we commit after that until the day we die. We can receive His free gift of grace only once. Romans 5:18

Whenever we sin after our reconciliation to God through baptism, then we are listening to the spirit of darkness and we are choosing to follow the ruler of the air.

If after our reconciliation to God through baptism, we are instead doing works of righteousness and are not doing sins of disobedience like breaking God’s commandments, then we are listening to the Spirit of Grace and He gives us more grace as a reward for our obedience to Him.
Then all of us are following the ruler of this world. When is the last time you sinned? Today, yesterday, a week ago?

There you go again inserting your own thoughts into the text. 1 John can be hard if you don’t start at the very beginning chapters.

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

John opens up with a true fact. That if we say we abide in Him yet walk in darkness then the light is not in us because God Is light. It is incompatible for darkness to exist with light. But if while walking in the light and we sin then He purifies us from all sin. Notice that John does not say that we stop sinning, but only that He purifies and forgives us of our unrighteousness. In fact, he says that if we say we have no sin then we are liars. This puts a wedge in your 1 John 2:2 interpreted "Whoever abides in Him does not sin (chooses to not commit sin). because it followed with “whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.” In your view then, any time anyone has committed a mortal sin, they would have “neither seen Him nor known Him”. How can a Catholic repent of their mortal sin if they do not know Him?

In fact is, that Christian still sin, they still struggle with their old nature and do commit sin. And when they do, they do so knowingly and participate with sin willingly. However, as rule, the will to ever do sin is broken, because they do know God, because God lives within them. Sin is incompatible with the ministry of the Holy Spirit, it is incompatible with the very reason Jesus Christ came into the world “To take away sin”, and it is incompatible with the new nature.

**Spin it??? **:o

Romans 8:1011** If Christ is in you**, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you

Romans 8:15-17 “For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” 16 The **Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, **17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ”

**May I assume it is hard for you because you said it was easy for me; which of course you do not know and that does not agree with Scripture?
**
Lu 13:24
"Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

The word strive is the word we use “agonize”. The key is finding the narrow way and then striving to enter by it; after that the burden is light because His yoke is easy.

How has your life changed?
My life changes for the better everyday I persevere in His will, If I fall short and we all do, I repent and turn to him in the Sacrament of reconciliation, I am forgiven and reconciled in his love for me.:DCarlan

That’s really quite a “Reformed” statement. Except you got it wrong.

I am Saved - “I have been justified completely before God through the merits of Jesus Christ.” I have been legally declared righteous and adopted into His family.

I am being Saved - Now that I am one of His, how much more will He save me by transforming me into His likeness. One problem though, I still have this old nature hanging on me. I battle it and it battles me but there will be a day when;

I will be Saved - When I die my old nature will finally be done away with forever and the old man that died in spiritual baptism but still remained with me will finally be swallowed up in victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

“In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?”

You have not said so or plainly, but between the lines it sounds:hmmm: to me like you are claiming the doctrine of Calvin , would it be rude of me to ask if you follow that way?:hmmm:Carlan

Do you keep a log of your daily failures for the confessional or do you approach the confessional on some other basis? How does that work? Or do different people do it differently? I guess the better question is what is the standard set by your church?

My life changes for the better everyday I persevere in His will, If I fall short and we all do, I repent and turn to him in the Sacrament of reconciliation, I am forgiven and reconciled in his love for me.:DCarlan
Maybe I did not phrase the question correctly. Since you have been a Catholic how has your life changed? Better everyday is kind of vague.

Presumption is a sin, Rock.:eek:Carlan

Would it had been a sin for the thief that hung next to Jesus to assume that Christ words to him were a promise? Why is it any different for us to when we trust in the same promises?
