I have to agree with this.
Also, keep in mind that in Catholicism, Mary, the Theotokis, is always depicted with her head covered. And if that is so, then it seems like it would be heretical to say that head covering is evil.,

Something you might be interested in along these linesā¦in ancient Jewish custom and practice, married women were supposed to keep their hair covered all the time. The only females who went about with uncovered hair were prostitutes.
This is why in Numbers 5, the test for the adulterous woman involves removing her hair coveringā¦as if to imply she is an impure woman.
And this is also why in Christian statuary and art, Mary is always portrayed as having her hair covered, with a veil.

Are recently had a conversation with a family member who said that they absolutely do not agree with Catholic women who choose to cover their heads in church. I said, why not itās a just a tradition, itās not like itās enforced any more and it is just a form of piety. They in turn said that they are a chauvinistic way of men enforcing their will on women. Furthermore that Catholics women who choose to wear head coverings have merely been brainwashed into thinking this is normal, and that they are merely around to make babies and should walk ten feet behind their husbands. Iām not looking for Biblical or Traditional apologetics, just some practical apologetics for women who keep this practice. It may be of note I am male.
Tell her that while you yourself feel that a headcovering may not be a life and death matter, you support every womanās right to choose. :yup:

Hereās an article that mentions how the National Organization of Women had in their handbook the agenda of getting Catholic women to discard headcoverings. They even burned veils in protest. Quite the eye-opener!

Watching what NOW is fighting for in 2008 is far more urgent. They are ardent supporters of abortion rights. OTOH, they are also ardent opponents of media images which make women into sexual objects. I wouldnāt join NOW, do not get me wrong, but they ought to be opposed or supported for positions they are holding now, not what they were doing 35 years ago.

Of course I noticed. I thought it was worth mentioning that abandonment of the veil has roots in radical feminism.
Back in the early 70ās, NOW wanted the tax exempt status revoked from Churches that preached against abortion. I think what they were doing then is still relevant to the fight we have against the evils of abortion and radical feminism today.

I donāt wear a head covering but I think that they are beautiful and I support any woman who choses to wear them as a sign of respect. I personally get somewhat irritated when I hear the theory that a woman who chooses to do something contrary to the āpolitically correctā form for women are somehow brain washed.
The assumption made is that women are easily brained washed. I certainly donāt think the this is the case when dealing with women of faith.

As one who was the last female on the planet to give up hats, and who lived through the period, the abandonment of headgear was just a natural evolution of the general relaxation of the rules of dress.
We gave up white gloves. We started to ādress upā in slacks ā it was the infant-age of the well-cut pants suit. Women stopped wearing slips. āFeminismā ā preaching the unimportance of dress ā picked up on some of the more gender-specific and fashion-fashion points of female dress and decorum, but trust me: we were taking off our hats long before NOW made any kind of rant about veils.
In the early 60s there was even press about how the fashionable Jackie Kennedy, was going to have to start wearing hats as First Lady.
