Leave it to CM to spin the story and make it seem like Burke resigned as a response to their challenge for “establishment media” types to either step up their reporting game or resign.

Burke very clearly stated that he’s decided to do this so that he can focus all of his time, energy, and attention on spiritualdirection.com and the Avila Institute - which he believes will have the greatest impact in addressing the spiritual crisis of our time.

One can only hope that EWTN News will take this opportunity to move away from being Catholic Fox toward something truly Catholic.

When the Holy Father went to the Philippines, Fox had live coverage, it was amazing to be able to watch that visit carried live on two different major networks. I guess, I don’t quite get some criticisms.

Fox also has had quite regularly, some panelists who were priests. I’m not sure if that is the case with CNN or MSNBC.

I get the gist of “Catholic Fox” if one is saying that EWTN news and leanings seem to be a bit conservative , however, I’d look at the total picture.

Raymond Arroyo is on Fox News all the time. He even fills in for Laura Ingraham. I’m not sure how it’s surprising that EWTN News and Fox are a bit too chummy.

One can hope but I doubt it… A high proportion of their viewers- and donors- are older rightist Americans who want to receive news slanted to their way of looking at things.

It may even get worse.

How did you and your team save the Register?

We poured all our energy into keeping the Register alive, and God blessed the work. We eliminated all the internal debt. In 2011, EWTN acquired the National Catholic Register, and it’s grown 90 percent since then in print subscriptions. I implemented a digital strategy right after I came on board, and that’s been off-the- chart successful in terms of reach and impact.
He saved the NCR
