Hospitaller:
The Cross or yarmulka, no one. The headscarf, well, if you take into account the demand for *sharia *law in Ontario, among other things…
what does that have to do with headscarfs??? what does that have to do with anything in this thread???
But speaking on that, i personally couldnt care less if its passed or not. I live in Toronto, Ontario by the way. besides, the ‘sharia’ law being proposed can hardly be called sharia. Its just something proposed to handle civil issues like marriage and inheritance, which muslims already handle with their local Imaams in the mosques through mutual arbitration. Anyhow, the government canceled it.
But were they worn as religious symbols?
You think Muslim women wear it to symolize islam? Ask any muslim women why she wears it, she will tell u its because God obligated me to cover this way, it really has nothing to do with symbolizing. If you wanna talk about the headcaps muslim men wear, youd have more of an argument. And what about crosses and jewish hats? Those are not worn as symbols by christians and jews?
And again i ask, what harm does it do to you hospitaliser to see a jew wear a jewish hat or a muslim wear a scarf?
Personally, I’m not all that certain on that point. Headscarfs seem too Islamic.
so when a catholic wears a headscarf, its ok, but when a muslim wears a headscarf, its too islamic? talk about racism and discrimination. And i thought catholics were the farthest away from carrying such traits.
Let’s talk about this again when non-Muslim women in Saudi Arabia can wear their own religious symbols.
Im really sick of this mindset people have about Muslim women, that theyre oppressed and unliberated, just because they still cover their body! And until they go out in their short skirts and tanktops, theyll continue to be precieved that way. Funny… the woman whos uncovered is free but the woman who maintains her modesty and chastity is oppressed… i would have thought it was the other way around!
Muslim women who cover do it for the sake of God, because they know its an obligation by God to them. They do it to please God and seek his reward. They do it out of modesty and chastity.
Saudi is a very religious and conservative society. That includes BOTH MEN AND WOMEN. Saudi women dont have a problem covering up in public. Many of them work, many of them are doctors, teachers, investors, run businesses, etc. many of them are quite wealthy. They have the freedom to live life as they wish while still upholding their religious duties (like wearing the headscarf). Unlike the west, where many muslim women experience discrimination because of their headscarf. Thus they end up feeling forced to comprimise their religious duties and take off their headscarf and reconfiguring their entire dress code.
