Healing gifts

My greatgrandmother had a healing gift. She could stop bleeding and “put out fire” by prayer (in the case of a burn she would also blow on the injured area and the pain would go away). When I was a kid it was amazing to have this earthy but mystical woman around. It was a gift that was handed down in her family for several generations, from woman to man to woman to man, etc. Her family was from the North of England. Anyway, my grandfather, her only child, refused to learn it because he said it was witchcraft. They were all Methodists, although two of her brothers became Catholic (a third was nicknamed Satan, religious affiliation unknown). I don’t know what it was…has anyone else ever heard of this?

Nope never heard of it.

I have heard of healing by the Holy Spirit. It might be a good idea to talk with a priest about this.

A person with a healing gift from God would have not given himself a nickename “Satan”, wouldn’t he?

The one nicknamed Satan was her brother, not my GGM who was the one with the healing gift. I guess my question is more if it’s common for healing gifts to be handed down in families in this way or if it’s something else.

I have heard of this. My sister poured scalding hot tea all over her legs and my great grandpa picked her up and said some prayer and blew on it. She never even got red from it. This happened a long time before I was born and my mother told me when I was little. My mom said it was some back hills sort of thing . My moms family was all baptist and she became catholic when she married my dad at 16. I keep thinking she asked him about it and he replyed it was all in the bible and that was all he would say. Sorry this isn’t much help but it clicked in a memory .
