I have attended several healing masses, and I have found them to be some of the most powerful moments in my life. Although I did not “rest in the Spirit”, I have felt the world dissolve around me and my knees give out, etc. I find these to be too curious to not want someone else’s opinion on them, and what happens. How can I use these experiences to grow in faith in the long run?

Any opinions?

I have heard that ‘Dark Night of the Soul’ is an excellent read for spiritual growth. I have yet to read it though.

“Praying Over” in general, when done properly is a very powerful experience. What happens is that the Holy Spirit is called to work powerfully in a person. Sometimes there are visible manifestations like crying, feeling warmth, feeling a sense of peace etc. At other times there may be absolutely none. While the manifestations are good, one should not loose focus on the essence of it all. The Lord our God is sovereign over all things and it is he who chooses us, not the other way round.

As a matter of personal opinion, the low points in one’s faith serves as a far greater avenue for growth. The little trials that we go through serve only to help us mature.

First of all, let me just point out that every Mass is a healing Mass. When Christ touches His people in the Eucharist, it is healing. That’s why so called “Healing Masses” have been disallowed by our Bishop.

In a typical “Healing Mass”, a healing service follows the homily, or communion, in which individual people are prayed over for healing. The healing can be physical, emotional, spiritual, or whatever healing is needed. In our diocese, the Bishop has asked that healing services be done after Mass has ended, so as not to confuse the central focus of the Mass, which is the Eucharist.
