I am aware of efforts to heal the schism…that is wonderful news! we could use some good news eh? with the onslaught of evil these days I wholeheartedly welcome re unification.Such a tradgedy that led to to the great schism, we have so much in common, I can see how diplomacy is so confusing as there are 15 different orthodox churches in full communion with each other and many others that are not.Our pope has apologized for the sacking of Constantinople way back when…things move veeeeeery slowly in the Catholic church eh?:grouphug: please all of you be onboard with this? we shall be stronger when we are all in full communion and able to maybe influence non christians to consider our church? if it is Gods will.QUESTION IS how close are we? hope to see re unification in my lifetime:)

I hope you are very young…:coffeeread:
I nominate Hesychios for “Best one line answers on CAF” 👍

I think its safe to say that it wont happen as long as the current MP is around. It would really take a combination of the right Pope and some sort of Patriarchal perfect storm. But the Holy Spirit is a wonderful thing.

A RO priest with whom I am friends once said to me that you could never predict these things; that he never expected to see the Soviet Union fall in his life time. So we keep praying.

salaam.

I agree with the priest.

Btw, Alexander Solzhenitsyn fell asleep in the Lord yesterday. A great Orthodox, a great Christian, a great man: he spoke in and out of season under the Soviet yoke and under the libertine yoke of the West. Memory Eternal!

God bless his soul, not many younger people know of him…a shame!

Eternal Memory…

Aleksander was a wonderful author. I’ve read a few bits of his in Russian, and Gulag in translation to English.

As to unification… “if today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts.” It will take many on both sides accepting that bit of wisdom from Psalms for it to happen.

eight…to be be exact:doh2:
It’s refreshing to see someone young be so on fire for the faith. Keep thinking positive…the Holy Spirit can do anything. The deciding factor is when our free will as humans fully cooperates with the working of the Holy Spirit. God desires us to be One Church. I’m sure it saddens Him that we ever split. I think the close friendship between Pope Benedict XVI and the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I is a very good sign.

Keeping praying for reunification. 🙂

What’s this mean, that is, why is it said? What does this do?
It’s the Byzantine way of remembering the dead

Cleric: “In blessed repose, grant, O Lord, eternal rest to your departed servant (Name/s) and remember (him-her-them) forever.”
People: “Eternal memory! Eternal memory! Blessed Repose and eternal memory!”

the shorthand is “Eternal Memory…” which for most byzantines will immediately trigger a mental recitation of the prayer.

There are a number of variations.
