How much are you paying for health insurance? When I was single and working for a tech company, it was totally free. Company paid the full premium, and made the families pay very little (~$200).

Now we are paying $800/month for our family. It’s killing us. I’m contemplating part time work at a place with benefits for part-timers. But honestly, I’m not sure if 20 hours a week away from my son and husband are worth $800. The alternative is trying to make more money with freelance jobs.

Anyhow, just interested in what companies are offering these days.

The UAW will be taking over the Chrysler plan for health insurance, and I know about it from the perspective of a retiree. Since the UAW will not be in charge for a few years, there was a lawsuit between Chrysler and the UAW for the interim. The decision is that a small amount will be taken out of the pension every month, less than $25. There will also be a deductible of a couple of hundred. But, you see, this coverage is after medicare. Still, my nephew-in-law, who is mid-career says that it is similar to what teachers have in health insurance coverage in OH.

My husband’s company offers an excellent BC/BS policy that costs us only about $150/month for family coverage. Though the premiums have risen a little each of the last several years, it is still a terrific value, and we are very fortunate.

Of course, there is no guarantee for any of us that employment will last, and the thought of being without health coverage terrifies me. I can only imagine how it must be for families with no, or very poor, coverage - praying every month that no one falls ill or, God forbid, needs hospitalization. This is something that the next president MUST address, as it is an overriding concern for many people.

I have Kaiser. I know that my employer pays more than $1000 a month for it. I pay just $7 a month for the whole family. I couldn’t believe it when I started here.

My husband owns the company, so I selected we pay the full amount. The premium offered to the employees is about $1000/family plan. This was the cheapest DH could find for his employees. From his research, he found our state was one of the most expensive in regards to insurance.

My husband and I don’t have any kids right now, but I just got health insurance by going back to our local community college. The student coverage rocks and it’s only $64/month just for me. To add my husband, it would be about $250/month, and if we got coverage for me, my husband and future children (God willing!), it would be $384/month.

We pay about $275 every two weeks. My husband’s company pays for him and that’s what it costs to add myself and our children. That’s just for medical. Except for my husband we don’t really have dental or vision care.

I remember too a day when an employee with no dependents was free–but even at my employer, and I work in the risk and health insurance business–employees are not free anymore. I think some of this is due to increased claims…increased sicknesses…company’s experience mods are so high, that they are now charging much higher premiums. I think as wellness programs continue to flourish, we will see more incentives for employees to get regular health/blood screenings, join gyms, etc…and rates will be established based on personal experience. The problem is that healthy people are thrown into the pool with unhealthy people–and everyone is paying too much. So, one way that our company is seeking to help other companies…is by providing these incentives, such as lowering premiums and deductibles, if people quit smoking, exercise, and get regular cholesterol check ups for example.

My husband and kids are on my policy at work…and we pay about $150 per month, but the deductible is higher. Either way, you pay, right?!🤷 :o

I pay about $95 every two weeks for DH and I. It would be a little higher if we had kids on the plan. My company self-insures, so they also pay about $200/month for us.

DH’s company has a similar plan. It’s a little more expensive (that’s why I’m carrying the insurance), but not a lot.

Mine is $700 a month but my wonderful boss pays the whole thing!

Golden Rule has a good catastrophic health plan. Family was $250/month with a $5000 deductible. Co-pay is waaay overrated!
