Health Risks of Common Communion Cup

Hey, I’ve already given up quite a bit for my Catholic Faith, probably more than most people here. For one thing, if you look in my profile, it says that I’m ‘Independently Wealthy’ . If you hadn’t already guessed, that’s actually a joke. I do, however, have a lot of apple trees. That’s the honest truth.

But actually, I’m a Catholic Convert. My family has disinherited me because, well, they really, really dislike the Catholic Church. They do so because they are secular Jews and most Jews view the Church as having been instrumental in the perscution of the Jewish people. My parents are divorced. My Mother is dead, and both my father and stepfather really despise the Catholic Church. They are also quite wealthy, and I’ve basically sacrificed millions of dollars in inheritance because of the faith. This is all very true, My maiden name was EDIT, as a matter of fact. They are in 78 and 80, and unless I renounce the Church, I doubt if I’ll get a penny.

So, if I decide that maybe the common communion cup is risky for me, because I can’t think of any other reason why I landed in the hospital with a community acquired pneumonia, and people here say that it would be great to be a martyr for the faith, well, I have a family that I’m single-handedly raising without much help from anyone, because my husband is dead. I’ve been rejected by my family because of the faith, and actually the Church hasn’t been very supportive of me either, to tell the truth. So, it really gets my hackles up when people so readily judge someone on an internet posting site when they only have a few words hastily written to go by. 😦

I apologise for using my real maiden name there, thanks for editing that moderator. I just wish that people would just live and let live as far as personal choices allowable by the church. When I started this thread, I was more interested in the epidemialogical aspect of this issue and also, if others were having a similar concern. Unfortunately, it’s turned into a dispectful slugfest, it seems like. In my parish, communion under both species is relatively a new offering of <5 years, and it took me awhile to get used to it, but once I did, I really thought it added to the majesty of the Mass, but I am an extremely fit and robust person, and I became very, very ill with a virulent, atypical, community acquire pneumonia in the middle of July. I suspect the common cup as one possible source of this illness.

Hey, relax. 😃

I and many others made it clear that you are welcome to do what you are comfortable with, as are we, as long as it is in keeping with the teachings of the church.

It is only when (not you) people bring in silly trivial points involving suicide and drano that the conversation turns from opinion based to absolute silliness.

I for one don’t begrudge you and your choices; bravo. You sound like a serious catholic, and that alone is a special commodity which we as a Church desparatly need.

The only thing I did (IMO) that may be best discussed elsehwhere is the human predilection for clinging to our earthly lives. But again, a topic for another thread, perhaps…

It is the legions of followers who attempt to DISSUADE in fact those of us who choose to practice as we see fit (in keeping with the Church, again) that are being silly and over stepping their bounds.

I hope you have a meaningful Mass and experience it the way you and God see fit. God Bless you:)

And Apple Pie rules too, btw. 👍

Thought provoking comeback. Can you elaborate this insight laden comment?

Perhaps “drano” is not silly (by the same token, neither is a gun man at Mass), but the notion of someone voluntarily choosing to indulge in something they knew was laced with drano is NOT the same as someone risking germs by receiving from the Cup.

Why do you insist on finding reasons to dissuade people who want to receive the Blood of Christ from receing? Are you THAT concerned with my health.

At best, the notion of such dissuasion is rooted in arrogance, at worst rooted in Satan himself. He would like nothing better to deter Catholics from Jesus in as many forms as possible. Which is it, Dr. Bombay?

For the last time (and by last, I mean until you post again about drano…), no one here is telling you stop drink if you choose not to. I respect someone people’s aversion to potential germs.

I myself hate ants. See, common ground, now we are building bridges:)

So kindly stop trying to convince those of us who choose to receive Christ’s Blood from not? Clear?
