I would like to introduce a resource for healthier lives.

https://www.lifestylemedicine.org/

We take it for granted that people have heart disease, cancer, diabetes and all sorts of other illnesses as part of the human condition. What if a lot of it can be avoided or mitigated. Wouldn’t it be worth it? Possibly extra healthy years with loved ones. Is it not our responsibility as good stewards of the gift of our bodies to do all we can to care for them? At first, like any conversion, it is a bit ascetic. It takes disciple to change unhealthy life long patterns. And it is certainly counter cultural. Part of the sickness of our culture.

What we eat may not defile the soul but we can certainly defile the body.

Agreed. If its in a cardboard box or a can and it has about twenty five unprouncable ingredients its probably not good for you.

i work for a hospital system that has made Type 2 Diabetes Awareness a priority but the stuff they serve in the cafeteria and vending machines is terrible. But it is ingrained in the culture. Our cafeteria managers says the health stuff does not sell but the chicken fried steak goes fast.

Many people have to work all hours to support their families. They get home from work tired . They will make a pre-prepared meal in the microwave. The obesity epidemic is caused by rubbish food , with the remaining nutrients microwaved out.
There’s very little education on healthy lifestyles. If you own a juicer its easy to make your own delicious fresh juices with no preservatives, colorants, sweeteners, etc Its an easy way to lose weight and prevent disease. Of course we have to address the quality of the water we drink, and the air we breathe::family_man_woman_girl_boy:🍎🥑🥦

This.
I love when shiny little HCP students are all “we need to educate the public about healthy choices!”
Everybody already knows an apple is better than a candy bar.
It’s just that the candy bar is more pleasurable.

Think we all have a point at which we say, “This is as far as I will go with my efforts. I accept the consequences.”

There’s no point talking about healthy lifestyle unless it involves regular exercise.

I never was good at sports in my teenage years, but since I was 23 or so, I got more involved in sports and I do a lot of exercise these days. There is definitely a noticable physical improvement and “wellness” that you feel if you excerice regularly. Excerise has been linked as well to preventing a variety of different cancers and illnesses. It’s also good for the brain as it releases endorphins.

I think too much emphasis is put on food in these health drives and not enough on excerise.

In Irish schools there are “healthy eating” policies and kids have to have a “healthy” lunch. But they only have 90 minutes of weekly excerise as part of their school week.

I think there’s a big difference between “Eating lots of fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and fiber, limiting sweets and saturated fats, and exercising can reduce your risk for heart disease, cancer, and many chronic diseases” and “This diet and exercise program will keep you healthy.”

As far as preventing infant and childhood mortality, clean water, sufficient food (with enough protein), vaccines, and antibiotics are a heck of a lot more effective than eating whole foods or paleo or whatever. As far as the diseases of maturity, doctors absolutely do push exercise, limiting alcohol intake, not smoking, and eating enough fruits and veggies as preventive medicine.

So what’s this web site got to offer?

They do that here in the US. The kids usually wind up throwing away the apples and carrots.

When my children were at school age I limited the number of ‘goodies’ they consumed. I was told later on that when the dentist came to their school that they were the only children in their years who didn’t need fillings. - Mean mum ! Unlimited sweets and cakes not only ruins the teeth, but also paves the way for diabetes obesity and poor health. When they reached their teens, my sons actually thanked me for making good choices for them when they were too young to understand.
