As I was spending time before the Blessed Sacrament a woman came up to me and gave me a rosary. It looked like an ordinary rosary, so I took it and said thanks.

However as I started looking closer at the rosary I realized that the beads were hearts instead of ordinary beads, and their was a big heart in the center of the rosary. Any thoughts on this?

Fine. Pray it.

I had one with blue crosses for beads but lost it.

I have one that has silver roses for the beads. 👍

The shape of the bead doesn’t matter.

The Rosary is not about the beads,it is about the prayers. If it brings you to the Rosary does not matter what the beads are made of.

The beads are only there to help you count the prayers and remember the sequence of prayers.

You can pray a rosary counting with your fingers and toes if you don’t have a physical rosary to help you.

As long as it has the right number of beads in the right spacings, then it’s fine. It’s nice to have sacramental thinks like a crucifix and center with the Blessed Mother, but they are not necessary.

I would say it’s a legitimate rosary don’t worry. The prayers associated with the rosary is most important. Another thing is this is such a beautiful devotional for Our Blessed Mother Mary and Jesus. You’re praying the gospel and learning about the events of both Jesus and Mary so pray with much faith, fervor and love. Meditate on the 4 Mysteries of the Rosary. God Bless! 🙂

As a devotional item theres nothing wrong with the bead shape.

Personally I don’t like it. But that’s probably because I’m not an 8 year old girl. 😛

Heart shaped beads are very popular with girls making their First Communion. 😃

That is a very attractive rosary.
It’s hematite - an iron oxide, and it is heavy so you know it is in your pocket, and when it is not. The beads are smooth like ball bearings and so they glide through the fingers…

Finally, we agree on something.

I feel there’s a certain danger to having things like rosaries in novel shapes and beautiful materials. Yes, while that in itself is not wrong it may be very distracting to the user. If it’s not, use away.

I don’t pray the rosary often but as a present from a priest in Italy I received a beautiful crystal and silver rosary. I tried using it for the Jesus Prayer and I found many times I would get distracted by the gleam or texture, etc.

This is why I sometimes carry a simple and indestructible Fransciscan rope rosary. It looks like a broken shoelace or something.

Check out the “Skateboarding Friars” at https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur…o09AtCxA#t=292. One of them is wearing one of those cheesy plastic glow in the dark rosaries around his neck while he skates. He’s probably prayed it a bazillion times. I love it. 😃

You can recite the Rosary on anything. I have used just my fingers many times. The Rosary is a prayer. The use of organized beads helps one to focus on the Mysteries.

Yes, I have favorite Rosaries but I usually give them away without even thinking much about it. I prefer one with large beads, and an ornate crucifix. About 30 inches long and heavy. 🙂

I see it fine, but the beads themselves are not really that important.
I would certainly call Pagan styled rosaries into question.

I myself have a green rosary with three leafed clovers embedded into the beads.

The “three leafed clovers” are probably shamrocks and therefore allude to St Patrick’s teaching on the Trinity.

I have quite a few Rosary beads in various places (bag, bedside, desk) but often just use my fingers if I’m on a bus or just recently having a heart scan, as others have said, it’s the prayers that matter.
